Tuesday, March 10th, 1998 Journal Register Company Completes Acquisition of The Saratogian Journal Register Company announced the completion of its acquisition of The Saratogian, Saratoga Springs, NY, and a weekly newspaper, the Community News, serving Clifton Park, NY, from the Gannett Foundation, Arlington, VA. The Saratogian, founded in 1855, has 11,831 daily and 13,822 Sunday circulation, as reported in the September 30, 1997 ABC Fas-Fax. Community News has weekly distribution of approximately 26,000. The announcement was made by Journal Register Company Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer Robert M. Jelenic. "We are extremely pleased to welcome the strong traditions of The Saratogian and its employees to Journal Register Company," Jelenic said. "Together with our existing paper in Troy, New York, The Record, this acquisition creates our sixth cluster, and we anticipate considerable synergies within this new cluster." The Record has 25,531 daily and 28,645 Sunday circulation. The Saratogian is Journal Register Company's fourth acquisition since December 12, 1997. In December 1997 and January 1998, the Company acquired the InterCounty Newspaper Group, Bristol, PA; the HVM group, New Milford and Westport, CT, operating as Housatonic Valley Publications and Minuteman Newspapers, respectively; and the Ladue News, Ladue, MO, a weekly newspaper in the greater St. Louis area. Each of these acquisitions is located in one of Journal Register Company's existing clusters, providing exceptional operational efficiencies. INX Launches Web Directory To The Printing Industry INX International Ink Co. has launched the PrinterSpace web site, a free service Internet directory of commercial, publication, packaging and specialty printers. Located at http://www.printerspace.com, PrinterSpace contains a directory of over 100,000 printers and print buyers worldwide, PrinterSpace allows printers to add and edit listing with pertinent information describing their services and area of specialization. Space is also devoted for phone numbers and addresses, including email and home pages. PrinterSpace also provides access to other web sites that can link associations, educational programs, suppliers, trade journals and books related to the printing industry. A separate Newsgroup for the printing industry is available through PrinterSpace. Located at misc.industry.printing, it contains articles on a wide variety of topics including environmental issues, prepress, process management, raw material sourcing, trends and training. Going one step further than the newsgroup, a roundtable discussion area on the web includes more topics such as equipment for sale and wanted, and jobs available and wanted. Stephen Spencer, founder and president of Internet Concepts LLC, began developing the PrinterSpace web site for INX in 1995, and is responsible for the continuous updates and expansion of the site. The new website details Pulse's benefits and lists the range of market information available.
