Tuesday, March 17th, 1998 The Penguin Group to Launch a Classical Music Label The Penguin Group announced plans to launch a new classical music label in conjunction with London Records and its sister labels, Philips, Deutsche Grammophon, and Verve all wholly-owned subsidiaries of the PolyGram entertainment group. Michael Lynton, Chairman and Chief Executive of the Penguin Group, said he hoped to see a launch of the new series before the end of the year, probably starting in the US and the UK. He commented "We said last year that building the value of the Penguin brand would be a priority. Books and classical music have a natural affinity, and we're delighted to be exploring the commercial potential of this link with the best names in the music business." Penguin Books is one of the world's foremost publishers of English-language consumer books, in both hardback and paperback. It owns a wide range of imprints and trademarks in addition to publishing in its own name, and also produces maps, audio books and other media products. The Penguin Group is a subsidiary of Pearson plc, the international media group. Upside Media Introduces Web-Based Daily Tech News Upside Media, Inc., announced the debut of Upside Today, a technology and financial news service, updated throughout the day. Edited by Senior Writer, Tish Williams, the new online publication is designed to be for high-tech movers and shakers looking to know "what's happening now" in technology. UpsideToday replaces Upside.com, which brought Upside magazine's brash commentary to the Web. Michael Pepe Named President of Business Information Group at Time Inc. Michael Pepe has been named President of the Business Information Group at Time Inc. The Business Information Group encompasses Time Inc.'s business and personal finance interests -- including Fortune, Money and Your Company magazines. Pepe has been serving in a similar capacity as Group Publisher since September 1993. Doug Fierro Named Group Publisher of PriMedia's Bridal Group Douglas Fierro has been named group publisher of PriMedia's Modern Bride magazine and Modern Bride Connection, its group of 14 regional bridal publications. Fierro had been publisher of Automobile magazine since October 1996; he joined PriMedia a year earlier as publisher of Chicago magazine. Prior to 1995 he was vice president of American Express Publishing, publisher of Food and Wine, associate publisher of Hippocrates and advertising director of Esquire.
