Chapters and The Globe And Mail to Launch Canadian Book Website

Chapters Inc. announced the signing of an agreement with The Globe and Mail to jointly develop www.chaptersglobe.com, a Canadian Internet book site. The companies expect the site to be fully operational in the fall of 1998.

With its unique blend of content, community and commerce, www.chaptersglobe.com will enable visitors to the site to browse through The Globe and Mail's recognized book reviews and bestsellers lists and then be able to purchase the books they have just read about through the Chapters online service.

Chapters will offer Canada's largest online source of books, with over two million titles, many of which are not available from U.S.-based online book stores. All books will be sourced from Canadian publishers and distributors, guaranteeing that readers will receive a Canadian edition whenever possible. Currently, Canadians purchasing books from U.S.-based online book stores often receive U.S. editions, even if the titles are Canadian.

Chapters Inc. is the largest book retailer in Canada operating bookstores in all provinces. The company currently operates a total of 338 bookstores across Canada under the names Chapters, Coles, SmithBooks, Classic Books, LibrairieSmith, The Book Company, and the World's Biggest Bookstore. Chapters is committed to supporting the Canadian book industry and actively promotes literacy and Canadian authors and publishers through relationships with Frontier College, the Writers' Development Trust and the Chapters/Books In Canada First Novel Award.

ZENtertainment to Release Its 200th Issue to more than 60,000 Online Subscribers

ZENtertainment announced it released the 200th issue of its free, online entertainment magazine to its growing list of over 60,000 subscribers on March 23rd. ZEN marks its third year of publication this May. The landmark issue comes hot on the heels of ZEN creator/writer Sean Jordan's feature pictorial in Vanity Fair's prestigious "Hollywood" issue.

"It's amazing to reach this stage where ZEN is not only getting recognition by publications like Vanity Fair," says Jordan, "but it's also attracting such a great group of subscribers who share my love of entertainment news. My readers range from the seasoned pro to the casual couch potato. My commitment to keep the magazine free to its readers ensures people from all walks of life can enjoy it."

ZENtertainment is an online news source that maintains a website trafficked by an average of 600,000 visitors a month, and also provides a free e-mail magazine delivered to 60,000+ subscribers twice each week. ZEN enters its third year of publication this May. Issues of ZEN cover the entire spectrum of entertainment, including Music, TV, Film, Literature, Magazines, Comics, Toys, Games, Technology, Amusement Parks, Plays, Musicals, Food, and Fashion. Additionally, the ZEN site features extensive coverage of release dates ranging well into the 21st century, as well as interviews, coverage of special events, and ZENtropy! -- a special section of the site devoted to hardware and software reviews.

The Holocaust History Project

The Holocaust History Project, a newly formed organization both of and for Holocaust researchers, announced the opening of its website at http://www.holocaust-history.org/. The Project was formed in 1997 both to respond to the fraudulent claims of Holocaust-deniers and to document that period of history. The site also provides an email question-and-answer service, for all questions relating to the Holocaust, at questions@holocaust-history.org.

Already, a great deal of material has been amassed, including several book-length works reproduced page-by-page such as the first two volumes documenting the Nuremberg Trial. Some material is of interest to general researchers, such as a reproduction of the original Stroop Report; other documents are more specialized, such as the 70-page technical work on Zyklon-B, from 1933, Blausaeure zur Schaedlingsbekaempfung.

Additionally, many essays by THHP members discuss issues of the Holocaust, and its denial, in detail. "Our essays cover a variety of topics," said THHP member Laura Finsten, "and should be of interest to readers with a variety of backgrounds. Historians, student researchers, or just people who have run across denial on the net: there's something for everyone."
