The change in the publication's name represents the culmination of a series of changes the magazine has been implementing over the last two years to more accurately reflect the evolving job titles, functions and responsibilities of its readers. The magazine's new tag line is "The Newsweekly for Digital Media Managers." "We've been making editorial changes to the magazine for nearly two years. The change in title is basically the final step of an evolutionary process in the works since mid-1996," said Rick LePage, publisher and editor-in-chief of MacWeek. "We've been making the changes in stages, addressing the most crucial elements first." Since 1996, MacWeek has refined the qualification criteria for its controlled circulation twice. MacWeek's current rate base is 85,000; according to LePage, the circulation level for the new publication will hold in that range. The premiere issue of EMedia Weekly is scheduled for August 24, 1998; the official launch of the new title is slated to coincide with the opening of the Seybold Seminars Conference and Exposition in San Francisco, August 31, at Moscone Center.
