Slam Magazine, Slam Presents, and Blitz. The announcement was made by The Petersen Companies, Inc. Chairman and CEO, James Dunning Jr. The three new acquisitions will be part of the current seven title Petersen Sport Group. The complete editorial and sales staff of the three acquired publications will remain independent and continue to publish the magazines out of the New York-based Harris Publications offices. On making the announcement Petersen's Chairman and CEO James Dunning, Jr. said, "Think of it, America's #1 selling newsstand sports magazine and, that's with a cover price or $4.50 joining Petersen. You couldn't find a more vital and growing magazine to round out the Petersen Sport Group. We also envision radio, television programming and licensing opportunities for Slam, which is a perfect fit in our overall multi-media marketing solutions strategy for advertisers." Slam, launched in 1994 as the "In Your Face Basketball Magazine" currently publishes 8 issues a year. The publication focuses on the NBA, college, high school and playground basketball, as well as all basketball gear. Slam Presents are special issues of Slam devoted to single-subjects -- the first special issue was a ground-breaking tribute to Michael Jordan, which came out in October, 1997. Blitz, the "In Your Face Football Magazine," is an annual football publication focusing on the NFL, college and high school football. Horse Whisperer Website Provides Film Info and Equestrian Links Equestrian enthusiasts will find much to savor at the new website for Touchstone Pictures' romantic drama The Horse Whisperer at www.thehorsewhisperer.com. The site provides photos, biographies, video and sound clips from the film, and also offers links to the top equestrian sites as well. A special "Whisperers" area provides a profile of Buck Brannaman, the Wyoming horseman who was the inspiration for the Nicholas Evans book The Horse Whisperer, upon which the movie was based. "Horses and life, it's all the same to me," Brannaman said. This real-life horse whisperer also served as the technical adviser on the film. The "Whisperers" section also houses links to other sites of interest to equestrians, such as Equisearch, the U.S. Equestrian Team, American Quarter Horse Association and the North American Riding for the Handicapped Association, among others. A chat room and bulletin board hosted by Equisearch for The Horse Whisperer, allows horse enthusiasts to trade tips and secrets on horses and riding. Redford directs the film from a screenplay by Eric Roth and Richard LaGravenese, based upon the novel by Evans. The film is produced by Redford and Patrick Markey.
