Deja News Provides Internet Discussion Services To CNET's Network

Deja News, Inc., the discussion network, announced a partnership with website publisher CNET, Inc. to provide CNET customers with active Internet discussions on a variety of topics. Deja News will provide discussion services for all CNET Web sites, including CNET.com, News.com, Gamecenter.com, Download.com, Shareware.com, Builder.com and Snap! Online. CNET's sites are among the most popular on the Web, drawing on average more than 6.5 million daily page views.

The agreement makes CNET the flagship customer for the Deja News Discussions product, an Internet discussion service for websites announced earlier this week. The first product of its kind, Deja News Discussions provides commercial and corporate websites, as Deja News network affiliates, with active, entertaining and informative discussions on virtually any topic, helping to build community as part of an affiliate's publishing or electronic commerce strategies.

"Partnering with Deja News will ensure that our discussions have critical mass from day-one and that they meet our customers' high expectations of CNET sites," said Halsey Minor, CNET's chairman and CEO. "As the publisher of one of the most active communities on the Web and owner of one of the most high-profile brands, we're excited - but not surprised - to be the first Top 20 Web site to take advantage of Deja News Discussions."

Deja News provides a free, Web-based service for participating in, reading and searching more than 50,000 Internet discussion forums, including Usenet newsgroups. The Web's leading destination for discussion, Deja News attracts more than 4.5 million users and generates over 115 million page views per month.

JustGo.com Now in Eleven Real Cities Markets

Knight Ridder New Media's Real Cities' JustGo.com, a nationwide online arts and entertainment guide, announced the launch of two new sites providing residents of Northeast Ohio and Kentucky with entertainment information. Real Cities is a network of 40 websites and Internet products serving communities across the country. Real Cities' JustGo.com provides visitors with a directory service with updated searchable listings for movies, music, restaurants and performing arts. It also includes reviews from newspapers around the country and movie trailers.

"More and more people are using JustGo.com to help them plan their weekend or a night out. People can go to the site, watch a movie trailer, get directions and a map to the theater in minutes. Or if dining is the first priority, people can search multiple restaurants and find a great place to eat and then find nearby theaters or nightclubs," said Real Cities JustGo.com Project Manager Bill Skeet.

The Northeast Ohio JustGo.com site is linked to Ohio.com, the online service for The Akron Beacon Journal. JustGo.com visitors to this site will find updated movie and music events from Akron to Cleveland and 500 restaurant listings in the Akron/Canton/Cleveland area, with descriptions, phone numbers and hours of operation.

The Kentucky JustGo.com site is linked to the online service for The Lexington Herald-Leader, KentuckyConnect. It features movie, dining, music and performing arts listings for the entire state of Kentucky as well as Cincinnati, Ohio. The site also includes television listings and weather information.

CNN CustomNews Celebrates First Anniversary

CNN.com/CustomNews, a joint venture between CNN Interactive and Oracle Corp. that provides free, personalized news via the Web, celebrates its first anniversary this week, with nearly 400,000 registered subscribers. The CNN CustomNews online service merges CNN's worldwide newsgathering resources with Oracle's technology to pinpoint and deliver news based on an individual's unique preferences.

During its first year, the site, which now serves more than 700,000 page impressions of individually configured information each day, had more than 75 software and design improvements, many of them inspired by users' suggestions. Visitors to the website may now choose from 2,200 separate news categories, an increase from the 400 categories which originally existed when CNN CustomNews initially launched. The categories are fed by input from more than 100 sources, including CNN's 32 worldwide news bureaus and 700 broadcast affiliates, international wire services and many other general interest and business publications.
