Hosted by Matt Lauer of NBC's Today Show, the formal gala, occurring in tandem with Bon Appetit's Ninth Annual Wine & Spirits Focus will benefit CityMeals-on-Wheels USA and The Make-a-Wish Foundation. Encompassing 12 specialty categories including chefs, restaurateurs, designers, wine professionals and food writers, the awards are intended to heighten public awareness of one of America's most pleasurable pastimes. "Every month Bon Appetit defines the essence of American culinary arts and entertaining, and with that, the inception of the first annual American Food & Entertaining Awards, is a natural extension of our editorial philosophy," said William Garry, editor in chief of Bon Appetit. Hearst New Media's HomeArts Network Becomes Anchor Tenant On AOL Hearst New Media and AOL Interactive Services, the Internet online services division of America Online Inc., announced that the HomeArts Network, Hearst's online venture featuring original programming for women, will become an anchor tenant on AOL's Food and Home & Garden areas within AOL's Interests Channel (keyword: HomeArts). Under the agreement, HomeArts-branded articles and high-quality features about lifestyle and home issues, such as food, gardening and home improvement will be integrated into the programming of the Interests Channel. The Hearst offering on AOL will include unique Web content developed for popular magazine brands like Good Housekeeping, Redbook, Town and Country, Marie Claire, House Beautiful and Cosmopolitan. Additionally, AOL's Food and Home & Garden sites will feature Hearst content such as the Recipe Finder, a comprehensive database that allows users to search over 3,500 recipes; the Hearst seasonal foods guide to the freshest seasonal foods; and History for Sale, House Beautiful's antique buying guide. Other HomeArts original content appearing on AOL includes the Gardener's Library, which will feature a Plant Encyclopedia with more than 1,000 entries, and the Handy Home Advisor interactive estimators which calculate quantities of materials needed for home renovations and repairs. Audio Book Club Announces BooksAloud.com Website Audio Book Club, Inc. announced that it has launched BooksAloud.com, an Internet website tailored exclusively for online customers. BooksAloud.com enables consumers to purchase audiobooks from their PC or the Company's catalogue. Club members, called "Frequent Listeners," can then shop from the BooksAloud.com website or from BooksAloud.com catalogues. Frequent Listeners with RealAudio will be able to listen to over 10,000 audio samples before buying. Additional aspects of the club include e-mail alerts, reviews from listeners, discussion rooms and frequently updated editorial content such as The USA Today Top 10 and Oprah's Book Club Picks. BooksAloud.com utilizes Net Perceptions' recommendation software to suggest titles based on the consumer's past purchases. Dallasnews.com Launches Archive Section dallasnews.com, the online site of The Dallas Morning News, has launched The Archive, an online database of Morning News stories and features since mid-1984. The site is located at archive.dallasnews.com. Users search and browse story capsules for free. When downloading an article they pay a fee: single use $2; five stories $5; unlimited-use license $200 a month. Stories are text only, without accompanying photographs or graphics. The Dallas Morning News is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Belo Corporation.
