The print version of BIZ/Excite will be a supplement to PC Computing, reaching PC Computing's one million+ circulation. Both the print version of BIZ/Excite and its online counterpart will debut in August. The print version will appear as a special section in the August issue of PC Computing, and as a polybagged supplement in the September and November issues. PC Computing editors will create all BIZ/Excite editorial content, and in every issue, Excite and PC Computing will collaborate to determine relevant Internet content to highlight at the end of each article. BIZ/Excite content will be incremental to coverage in PC Computing, and will not replace anything in that publication. Biz.excite.com will reside in the small business area on Excite at www.excite.com. It will feature editorial content found in its print counterpart, plus online-only interactive features. BIZ/Excite content will focus on how small/medium businesses can invest in and utilize technology to gain a competitive business advantage. Following the PC Computing editorial model, BIZ/Excite's product reviews/recommendations will be based on extensive testing. Recurring BIZ/Excite editorial elements will be technology ROI calculations; technology implementation how-to's; and small/medium business success story case histories. Regular coverage and topics will include Internet strategies and deployment; mobile communications; networking PCs; communications; budgeting, financial and personnel issues; sales marketing and customer relations; and product development, manufacturing, distribution and inventory issues. AOL's Digital City Adds 12 New Sites AOL's Digital City Inc. announced it has expanded into 12 additional markets. The expansion makes Digital City the first local content network with a presence in 50 US markets. The 12 new Digital City sites -- in Harrisburg/York, Pa.; Buffalo, N.Y.; Albany-Troy, N.Y.; Jacksonville, Fla.; San Antonio; Oklahoma City; Albuquerque-Santa Fe, N.M.; Richmond, Va.; Columbus, Ohio; Grand Rapids, Mich.; Milwaukee; and Nashville, Tenn. -- offer residents and visitors an online resource to help them get the most from these respective communities. "We're pleased to offer millions of AOL members and web users a valuable local resource that will help them get the most from their community." dELiA*s and Scholastic to Create Web-Inspired Book for Teens dELiA*s Inc. and Scholastic Inc. announced that they have reached an agreement for Scholastic to publish a new book for teenage girls based upon editorial content drawn from and inspired by dELiA*s gURL.com website. Scholastic expects the book, tentatively titled Deal With It: A whole new approach to your body, brain and life as a teenage gURL, to be published in the Fall of 1999. Stephen Kahn, President and Chief Executive Officer of dELiA*s Inc. stated, "We are excited to be entering into this agreement with a long- standing and highly respected organization. The Scholastic name is known for both its integrity and popularity among its young readers. This deal is a great example of the brand strength of the gURL.com property and its development within the dELiA*s portfolio of Generation Y brands. Sun Media Corporation Announces Transactions Sun Media Corporation announced it has reached a conditional agreement to acquire four daily newspapers from Southam Inc. and Hollinger Canadian Publishing Holdings Inc., The Hamilton Spectator, The Record (Kitchener-Waterloo), The Cambridge Reporter and The Daily Mercury (Guelph) with combined daily circulation of approximately 200,000. In addition, Sun Media has agreed to sell its 80% interest in The Financial Post Company to Southam Inc. The Financial Post has circulation of approximately 100,000 daily and approximately 200,000 for its weekend edition. The acquisition of the four dailies, along with the previously announced pending acquisition of The Brockville Recorder and Times, gives Sun Media 15 of Canada's 105 daily newspapers and a 16% share of the national circulation. The acquisition will give Sun Media daily newspapers in seven of Canada's top 11 markets. ``We take great pride in having built the Post into a major media franchise,'' said Paul Godfrey, President and Chief Executive Officer of Sun Media. ``As such, the decision we have taken came with a great deal of reluctance and only after much soul-searching. I always said that we did not wish to sell the Post for cash because, as a company, it is our objective to build on our already-strong newspaper base as well as expanding into other media. Only through a transaction such as this, in which we acquire established dailies in two of Canada's largest markets, could we have accomplished that goal. We believe this transaction is in the best long-term interests of our shareholders.''
