Thursday, July 23rd, 1998 Media Cynic | Forum | Advertising | Classifieds | Jobs Vibe Magazine Launches Fashion-Music Trade Show Vibe, a magazine of urban fashion, music and culture, will launch the trade show Vibe Style this October, it was announced by Keith T. Clinkscales, President and CEO of Vibe/Spin Ventures. To be presented twice yearly, the first three-day Vibe Style show will be held this October 18-20 at New York City's Javits Convention Center. "This is an exciting new arena for Vibe," noted Clinkscales. "Just as Vibe has brought together all aspects of urban culture, capturing the hottest aspects of everything from fashion to music to sports, Vibe Style will offer today's hippest fashion voices the perfect forum for presenting their products to retailers who want to reach young trend-setters," says Clinkscales. Open to the trade only, Vibe Style will spotlight the wide array of fashions featured in Vibe magazine. In addition to runway shows and exhibitor booths, Vibe Style will feature special events, such as appearances by celebrities, seminars on timely topics relevant to the business of urban culture, parties and other happenings. In addition to Vibe, other Vibe/Spin Venture publications will be featured prominently at the show. Spin will sponsor a section spotlighting action sports and alternative lifestyle and club wear. Blaze, a new magazine geared exclusively towards hip hop music, will sponsor a section of hip hop streetwear. Founded in 1992 as a joint venture between Quincy Jones and Time Inc. Ventures, Vibe is based in New York and is published 10 times a year, with a current circulation of 600,000. In 1996, Vibe magazine was sold to Vibe Ventures, a partnership led by Jones and Robert L. Miller. Last June, Vibe Ventures acquired Spin Magazine, which provides coverage of new voices in rock 'n roll. This August, Vibe Ventures will launch Blaze. Celebrating the four original elements of hip hop - Blaze will target young adults aged 14 to 24. Modern Physician Launches Website Modern Physician has launched its own website, located at http://www.modernphysician.com. The site was formerly housed on the website of its sister publication Modern Healthcare, http://www.modernhelathcare.com. The Modern Physician website is divided into the following departments: Articles, Subscribe, Second Opinion, Staff Info, Marketplace, Media Info, Classifieds and Tell Us. Several Modern Physician articles are featured on the internet site each month. In addition to the cover story, selected news articles and classified advertisements, department offerings include: Editorials, Technology, Managed Care, Finance, Legal Issues and Clinical Trends. The Modern Physician site also includes an "Article Archive" that allows users to view all articles that have been posted to the Modern Physician site. Unique to the Modern Physician website is "Second Opinion." The bulletin-board format of this feature allows the user to read the views of leaders in the executive physician community on current industry issues and share their thoughts and opinions with the public. An additional feature of the web site is the "Marketplace," a collection of information on associations, organizations and resources in the business of healthcare that includes a hotlink to each site mentioned. The site publishes original news and feature articles authored by the editorial team from the newspaper Internet World Australia. The site is modeled after the successful Internet.com website. "These news reports profile the blossoming Internet industry in Australia, as well as the major e-commerce and Web developments being produced by both large, established companies and entrepreneurial firms," said Alan M. Meckler, chairman and CEO of Mecklermedia. Scene and NewsChannel 5 Announce Strategic Alliance NewsChannel 5 and Scene Entertainment Weekly officially announced their plans to work together in online publishing.
