Golf Masters to Publish with HarperResource

HarperCollins Publishers' new reference imprint, HarperResource, scored wins for its golf program on July 19, when author Mark O'Meara won the British Open, and author Hale Irwin captured the Ameritech Senior Open. HarperResource will publish O'Meara's Golf's Good Walk Made Better next April, just as he defends his title at the Masters.

Sharing the spotlight with O'Meara is his golf instructor Hank Haney, whom O'Meara credits with helping him win his first major tournament in 18 years. Recently voted one of the top three golf instructors in the business by Golf Digest, Haney is penning his first instructional, The Only Golf Lesson You'll Ever Need, to be published by HarperResource next June.

HarperResource also recently signed Hale Irwin's Smart Golf, to be published next April. Since his Ameritech victory, Irwin won the U.S. Senior Open in Los Angeles, becoming only the seventh player to win both the U.S. Open and U.S. Senior Open. Irwin is the first player in half a century to capture three consecutive Senior Tour Championships.

"I'm pleased that our golf publishing program is such an integral part of the launch of HarperResource," says Senior Editor Robert Wilson, who acquired the above three titles. "It's an honor to work with such legends as Mark O'Meara, Hank Haney, and Hale Irwin, and to bring each of their unique perspectives on the game to their many devoted fans."

`MoneyCents' Creates Website for Children

MoneyCents Inc. has created an interactive website for children ages 10-15, providing them with an entertaining enlightenment on how to earn, save, invest and spend money wisely. The website has been developed with input from a group of youngsters from various socio-economic backgrounds. It debuts at a time when public schools across the country have been mandated to provide personal finance into their curriculum.

With such interactive characters as "Bill, Princess Maxine Millions, Danny Dinero, The Re-Po Kid and Moonlighter," this website is designed to stimulate a youngster's natural fascination with money. Created by children, the characters provide the background for the learning experience, encouraging youngsters without distracting teens. The site allows users to take short cut links to other reference locations on the World Wide Web.

"This website is proving to be extremely popular with the kids as well as their parents and grandparents," reported Barbara Smart, president of MoneyCents, who originated the concept along with partner Lois O'Connor, a financial advisor. "By their own admission, many parents are not able to set forth the best examples of `fiscal responsibility,' so their response to this program has been overwhelmingly supportive," she stated.
