Collegeweb.Com Launches On-Line Community

CollegeWeb Inc. announced the launch of CollegeWeb.com, a college community on the Internet. CollegeWeb.com will gather all of its content through on-line submissions from its members. CollegeWeb has recruited a nationwide staff of college writers, college bands, fiction authors, poets, artists and students abroad to deliver content on an international scale.

"This is the first community of its kind," said Alex Chriss, President and CEO of CollegeWeb Inc., "we plan on creating something fun, cool and intelligent for college students throughout the United States. Our mission is to bring this group together and create a cohesive environment to share the college experience across different campuses. CollegeWeb is a great way for students to get involved on a national level."

CollegeWeb.com differentiates itself from other "communities" by both the content and management of the site. The content is created and updated daily by college students. Students will also take a leadership role in managing the daily operations of the business. "By allowing students the opportunity to author the content and mold the site features, we have created a new genre of web site. Our visitors are not merely audience members absorbing what we feed them, they are active participants with control over the entire experience," Chriss said. "With this new freedom of expression and interactive possibilities, I think we will find that students are far more insightful and intelligent than their 'beer drinking' stereotype allows."

CollegeWeb.com will feature campus band reviews, breaking news stories from a college student perspective, chat rooms to discuss issues that affect all college students, student art, student fiction, movie reviews, contests, and reports from students abroad. All content is provided and edited by students with their peers in mind.

Scour.Net Website Provides Multimedia Search Engine

Scour, Inc., the Internet start-up founded by five UCLA computer science students, announced the availability of Scour.Net,a search engine and guide for finding audio, video and images on the Internet. The website lets users find pictures, movie scenes, music clips, concerts, sporting events and more.

Scour.Net's core service is a search engine that specializes in finding multimedia on the Internet. Unlike conventional search engines that index text found on webpages, Scour's search technology scans the Internet exclusively for audio, video and images. Scour.Net offers many enhancements over traditional search engines for finding multimedia including an image index featuring over one million thumbnails, the first ever of its kind.

"On the Internet today, over 800 radio stations broadcast live content, over 50 professional sports teams broadcast live games, record companies offer thousands of hours of music samples and movie companies offer video clips from their latest movie releases," said Dan Rodrigues, President and CEO of Scour. "This is truly exciting and compelling content. What Scour.Net offers is a precise way to find this content without browsing hundreds of web pages or thousands of search results."

Scour, Inc. is a privately held corporation based in Los Angeles, CA. Scour develops and markets Scour.Net, the first exclusive search engine and guide to multimedia on the Internet. Scour was founded in December 1997 by five UCLA computer science students with combined expertise in Internet searching, multimedia research, Internet privacy and protocols, and web development.
