Sells Quiltmaker and Quilter's Newsletter Magazine to PriMedia The Jordan, Edmiston Group, Inc. announced that Emmaus, Pennsylvania-based Rodale Press, Inc. has sold its , Colorado-based Leman Publishing Group's Quiltmaker magazine and Quilter's Newsletter Magazine to PriMedia Inc. The two quilting titles acquired by PriMedia Inc. from Leman, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Rodale Press, are industry leaders in providing their readers information on quilting. "Earlier this year, Rodale announced they would be divesting certain properties that were peripheral to their core market of healthy active lifestyles," said Wilma Jordan, chief executive officer of The Jordan, Edmiston Group. "Rodale's exceptional track record in developing and growing a loyal base of readers and advertisers for its crafts and hobbies titles, made the acquisition of Quiltmaker magazine and Quilter's Newsletter Magazine a very attractive opportunity for PriMedia Inc.," added Jordan. Rodale Press, Inc. also publishes over 40 book titles for the quilting and sewing marketplace, which last year sold over 660,000 copies. Among the titles are Quick Country Quilting, Quick and Easy Quiltmaking, and The Experts Book of Sewing Tips and Techniques. These properties were not involved in the sale. HarperEntertainment Scores Celebration of the Home Run Record HarperEntertainment announced today that is has acquired the only official Major League Baseball book about this season's quest to break the single-season home run record. Race for the Record will be an oversized commemorative edition filled throughout with full-color photographs. It will be published in October 1998 by the newly-launched imprint HarperEntertainment, which specializes in books about movies, TV, celebrities, music and sports, as well as book programs for the NBA, the X-Files, and NASCAR. Race for the Record follows St. Louis Cardinal Mark McGwire and Chicago Cub Sammy Sosa as they chase and eclipse baseball's most cherished record--Roger Maris's single-season record of 61 home runs. Joining Big Mac and Slammin' Sammy are Ken Griffey Jr. and Alex Rodriguez of the Seattle Mariners, Greg Vaughn of the San Diego Padres, Andres Galaraga of the Atlanta Braves, and Barry Bonds of the San Francisco Giants, as each slugger tries to blast his way into the record book. "Race for the Record succeeds in capturing all the drama of this unprecedented and historic home run race," says Senior Editor Robert Wilson, who acquired the book for HarperEntertainment. "It takes the home run race from the ball park to the book page. Race for the Record is a celebration of an event so riveting and inspiring that it has transcended baseball itself and held our collective attention all season long." Atlanta Magazine Posts Increase in Circulation Atlanta Magazine posted a significant increase in circulation. The Audit Bureau of Circulations (ABC), June 1998, reports circulation at 65,915, compared with 61,056 in June, 1997. Atlanta Magazine publisher Susie Love, who was sent to head the magazine by owner Emmis Communications in June 1997, credits the increases to sales staff and design changes. "With the addition of an expert sales staff, marketing team and our new look, Atlanta Magazine is positioned for a very bright future," says Ms. Love. Atlanta Magazine has also secured formal partnerships with 11Alive's Peachtree Morning TV show and WGKA AM radio to cross-promote each month, as well as partner on promotions and events. The magazine, last week, was awarded the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) Press Award for its contributions to the design community. Families Learn How to Spook Their Homes this Halloween on the Internet HalloweenNet.com has announced its arrival to the Internet for the 1998 Halloween season. HalloweenNet is an interactive site that features "Tips & Tricks" to haunting your home. Families will find ideas and detailed plans to building their own haunt. Contests, haunted treats, movie reviews, and links to other Halloween resources are also featured. This year, HalloweenNet has more creepy things than a real haunted house. Visitors can expect more props, recipes, movie reviews, and ghost stories than last year. They can even submit prop ideas and plans for others to see. HalloweenNet has also revealed an exclusive set of creepy sounds that can be downloaded by visitors online. They can then use these sounds on Halloween night to create their own haunted neighborhood home. HalloweenNet's book contest is now underway as well. Guests can enter to win a copy of the book A GhostHunters Guide, by Arthur Myers. Launched last year with no promotion, this Halloween website did surprisingly well. HalloweenNet's creator, Steve Rowin, Halloween hobbyist and entertainment technology engineer, placed HalloweenNet online last year for a test run. Surprised by its mass appeal and success, he decided to officially open HalloweenNet with its new address, www.HalloweenNet.com, in August of 1998.
