Scholastic Executive Vice President Hugh Roome has been named head of the new group that will encompass Scholastic existing consumer and professional magazines and marketing properties and will focus on developing and acquiring new magazines targeted to children, parents and teachers. "Scholastic's unique ability to integrate its businesses -- children's publishing, education, media and entertainment -- enables us to understand and adapt to a changing marketplace. The creation of this new unit will allow us to further capitalize on our track record in developing specialized magazine properties for both the consumer and professional markets," said Richard Robinson, Chairman, President and CEO of Scholastic Corporation. "It will also enable us to expand one of our core businesses while concentrating on developing new publications aimed at our main constituents, teachers, children and parents. Scholastic Consumer and Professional Magazines will include Scholastic's professional and parenting magazines: Coach, Instructor, Electronic Learning, Early Childhood Today and Parent and Child. These titles, with a combined circulation of over 1.5 million, represent important franchises for the Company and will be expanded under this new organization. OnHealth.com Provides Content to Motorola's Paging Information Services OnHealth.com, a websites dedicated to health and wellness information, has announced an innovative collaboration with Motorola to include OnHealth content in Motorola's new customizable paging information service, i Kno!. Motorola's new i Kno!network will feature OnHealth's Daily Health Briefing, which provides the latest health news. Topics range widely from new Food and Drug Administration approvals to healthy living tips. Once implemented, pager customers can choose to have the Daily Health Briefing sent directly to their pagers. Motorola's new technology offers paging companies a broad range of information preformatted and ready for inclusion in service bundles that the carrier would then offer to its customers. In addition to OnHealth's health news, i Kno!(sm) will offer standard news features such as local weather and traffic, sports, movie reviews, national and international news, and financial information. "As part of our strategy to be the innovative, premium provider of health and wellness information, we are excited to align ourselves with Motorola to bring the latest health news to this new platform in wireless handheld devices," said Robert Goodman, president of OnHealth Network Company. Antonio Sabato Jr. To Headline TBS Superstation's First Original Movie, Reaper Antonio Sabato Jr. will star in TBS Superstation's debut original movie production, tentatively titled Reaper. Shooting on the film is scheduled to begin this fall in Vancouver, under the direction of Armand Mastroianni (He Knows You're Alone). Reaper, produced by Stephanie Germain of Stephanie Germain Productions in association with Frank Von Zerneck and Robert Sertner of Von Zerneck-Sertner Films (Robin Cook's Invasion), is scheduled to premiere on TBS Superstation during First Quarter 1999, followed by three other original movies premiering throughout the rest of the year. "Reaper is a gripping thriller and a natural extension of our network's movie image--fun, contemporary, male-oriented and high-action," said Jim Head, vice president of original programming for the Superstation. "We are excited to be kicking off our original movie franchise with Antonio Sabato Jr., who fits our network's personality perfectly." Reaper is scripted by Rockne O'Bannon (Alien Nation) from a novel by Ben Mezrich. It tells the story of a computer virus that evolves into a deadly organic virus. Sabato plays a doctor out to stop the killer program before it is unleashed on an unsuspecting public.
