Phillips Business Information Launches Satellite Today E-Mail and Online Service

The Satellite Group of Phillips Business Information, Inc. (Phillips) announced the launch of Satellite Today, a daily e-mail, website and news alert service covering global commercial communications satellite industry developments. The product debuted at the Satellite Communications Exposition and Conference in Washington, D.C.

Vice President of Phillips News and Information Services Heather Treat believes that Satellite Today will become one of the premier commercial satellite resource services on the market today. "Satellite Today is a state-of-the-art online business resource that's easily available and adaptable to the needs of satellite executives worldwide," she said.

Satellite Today is designed to be a global provider of strategic news, business intelligence and marketplace research to executives in the launch, commercial satellite and MSS industries. Two membership levels are available for Satellite Today.
The Password and Talk City Announce Chat And Content Exchange

The Password and Talk City have announced a partnership involving online chats and content integration. The Password offers a free online service that provides Web content targeted to over 500 communities of interest as well as personal publishing tools that allow users to find, monitor, and publish Web content, will provide Talk City with chat guests and access to its content library. Talk City will integrate The Password's content into its community areas and will host The Password's chat events.

"We are thrilled to be working together with The Password to help build a quality community venue for millions of people around the world," said Peter Friedman, chairman and chief executive officer at Talk City. "This partnership adds tremendous value to Talk City's growing partner network, and by combining The Password's comprehensive Web content with Talk City's robust community offerings really helps create an inviting environment where people will want to come often for engaging conversation."

Recent chat events presented by The Password for Talk City include Star Trek's Gates McFadden, bestselling authors Douglas Adams (Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy) and Frank McCourt (Angela's Ashes), and Korean golf wonder Se Ri Pak. The popularity of these guests for both the Talk City and Password audiences prompted the joint venture.

Under the terms of the agreement, The Password will provide chat guests to Talk City, which will host and promote the chat events, and will also create a Password-branded chat room. The Password will also provide its full content library to Talk City, which will then be co-branded and fully integrated across the Talk City site. The Password's personal publishing toolset, which allows users to build and share 'passWorlds,' their personal view of the Web, will be made available to Talk City users, who will be able to publish their passWorlds on both the Talk City and Password sites. The partners will share revenue generated by the joint venture.


The Journal News To Begin Publishing In Westchester, Rockland & Putnam Counties

In Westchester, Rockland and Putnam counties, Gannett Suburban Newspapers has announced that on October 12th it will begin publication under a single name -- The Journal News. Publication of The Journal News marks the first time a single daily newspaper has served the 861-square-mile, three-county region immediately north of New York City.

"The publication of a new newspaper under a unified brand will follow nearly three years of intensive planning and market research," said Gary F. Sherlock, president and publisher of Gannett Suburban Newspapers. "Our newspapers have been and continue to be the dominant news medium serving our three-county market. With The Journal News we will establish a clear identity and new design that will reflect the sophistication of today's reader. Our new newspaper will position us to expand our market leadership as we move into the 21st century."

Gannett Suburban Newspapers -- which is owned by the Gannett Co., Inc., -- is currently publishing 12 different editions of its daily newspapers under 10 different names in the three counties. The Journal News will publish four editions -- three serving Westchester and Putnam, and one serving Rockland, all with guaranteed home delivery by 6 a.m. on weekdays.

The four editions of The Journal News will be: Southern Westchester; Central Westchester; Northern Westchester/Putnam; and Rockland. The use of four editions will allow expanded coverage and analysis of news that is of interest to the entire region, while at the same time allowing in-depth coverage of local and neighborhood news.

The new newspaper will include many improvements and expansions of news coverage. Highlights include expanded local news reporting along with broadened business and sports coverage. Graphically, The Journal News will be redesigned in a contemporary style to make it better organized and easier to read. The daily newspaper will feature six sections including a stand-alone Classified advertising section. The front page of each of the five news sections will feature a "quick-read" column offering a synopsis of that section's major stories.


Ziff-Davis Renames NetBuyer Shopping Site computershopper.com

Two years after its launch of Computer Shopper NetBuyer on ZDNet, Ziff-Davis has renamed the shopping site computershopper.com. Modeled after its parent in print Computer Shopper magazine, computershopper.com is a multi-vendor shopping site for computer products on the web, providing users the ability to shop, compare and purchase from a wide selection computer products and vendors, along with editorial on what and where to buy.

"Computer Shopper is the brand buyers trust when it comes to purchasing computer products, and has been the authority in print for nearly twenty years" said Al DiGuido, Executive Vice President/Group Publisher for Computer Shopper across all platforms. "But today's buyers purchase through a variety of media-including magazines, the Web, television and trade shows. By renaming our shopping site computershopper.com, we are further strengthening our position on the Web through strong, consolidated and consistent branding, and providing users a trusted, recognized leader in every media platform for information on what, where and how to buy."
