Appearing on Tuesdays on page 2 of the Globe's Metro/Region section, the column will cover educational news and information in Greater Boston and New England from grades kindergarten through college. It will be written by three Globe staff reporters who write about education full-time: Jordana Hart, on suburban education from kindergarten through grade 12; Beth Daley, on the Boston Public Schools; and Kate Zernicke, on higher education. Items published in the first column on September 29 included a report on the elimination of February and April vacations in some school systems; a state department of education program to help public school teachers pay off students loans; a program by Boston's Teen Empowerment to help high school freshmen make the transition from middle school to high school; and the appearance of First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton at the Massachusetts College of Art's 125th anniversary dinner on December 5. Health and fitness features and behavior-related stories will be grouped together in an interior section front anchored by Jane Brody's Personal Health column and will also appear regularly on the section's front page along with Science Times's traditional science coverage. In addition to the expanded health and fitness coverage, the section will include more profiles of science personalities, a weekly letters column and ``Observatory,'' a weekly collection of off-beat, amusing and otherwise unusual short items. Science Times will appear nationally as a stand-alone color section in all three editions of the newspaper -- the New York Edition, the Northeast Editions, and the National Edition.
