MapQuest Unveils New Site Design

GeoSystems Global Corporation has revamped its MapQuest website for improved ease of use and added functionality. MapQuest is a popular consumer and business interactive mapping service on the Internet. Its new interface is centered by a compass rose that will guide users through its multiple services.

MapQuest is now organized to allow visitors to choose between maps, driving directions, trip planning, membership information and the new MapQuest MapStore. Visitors to MapQuest MapStore can purchase from a selection of more than 60,000 map titles, including National Geographic maps and road atlases. One point on the compass leads into a Products and Services section, with information on the business solutions MapQuest offers to map-enable other companies' websites and applications.

MapQuest's door-to-door driving directions have been improved. Visitors to MapQuest can now generate detailed driving directions between any two USA addresses. Users can also employ the new "Quick Maps" feature to generate a city map of their choice from 21 United States or 24 International cities.

"Many of MapQuest's functions are more tightly integrated to the interface," said Killick. "Strong features of the site, such as TravelPlan USA, are more visible to MapQuest visitors. With TravelPlan USA, travelers can utilize content from Mobil Travel Guide to gather information about destinations, lodging, dining, entertainment and weather for locations all over the country while planning an itinerary."

SportsJones Online Magazine Launches

SportsJones is a new, daily online magazine for sports and sports culture announced the launch of its website. The online magazine contains book reviews, satire and commentary, personal essays and professional experience, statistical analysis and international reportage.

The senior editor is Teri Bostian, athlete, coach, and alum of the University of Iowa writing program. Along with Bostian, there is: Scott Page, game theory professor and statistical analyst; Michael R. Hicks, from the University of Louisville; Erin Edom, left-coast fitness instructor and writer; Tim Morris, author of Making the Team: The Cultural Work of Baseball Fiction; Richard Crepeau, author of Baseball: America's Diamond Mind, 1919-1941; Wes Jackert, a 'soccer rocker' from Seattle; Howard Z. Unger, writer for The Village Voice; Amanda Smith of The Sports Factor, a weekly sport-culture program from the Australian Broadcasting Company; and two dozen other writers, scholars, and athletes.

In a recent interview with the online journal Newsies, SportsJones editor-in-chief Royce Webb says, "The mainstream sports media is an industry, a sausage factory. But not every sports fan wants a steady diet of sausage. SportsJones sees the world of sports as a world of great artistry, achievement, meaning, and fun. We love sports and its participants, and we're tired of the cynicism that passes for real criticism. Instead, we believe that sports is ripe for the kinds of thoughtful analysis that all other aspects of our society and culture receive. We shouldn't leave writing on sports to the sportswriters."
