Borders Group Names Philip M. Pfeffer CEO

Borders Group announced that Philip M. Pfeffer has been elected Chief Executive Officer and a director of the Company. Robert F. DiRomualdo, formerly Chairman and CEO, will continue to serve in an executive capacity as Chairman of the Board.

Mr. Pfeffer served as President and Chief Operating Officer of Random House from 1996 until its acquisition by Bertelsman A.G. earlier this year. Random House operated through 11 divisions, including operations in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.

Prior to joining Random House, Mr. Pfeffer served as Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of the Ingram Distribution Group, Inc. Since 1981, Mr. Pfeffer has served on the faculty of the Stanford Professional Publishing Course at Stanford University.

In commenting on the appointment, Mr. DiRomualdo stated: "Phil will be a tremendous addition to our management team and we are extremely pleased to have him join us. He brings with him outstanding leadership skills, as well as an extensive knowledge of the book industry. We have known and worked with Phil for many years in his positions with Random House and Ingram Industries and have been impressed with the strong service culture that he has helped instill in those companies. With the increasing complexity of our business as a result of international expansion and internet selling, Phil's depth of experience with the content and logistics aspects of our business will be invaluable and will enable me to focus on strategic issues."


GameSpot Inc. Selected as Content Provider MSN Gaming Zone

GameSpot Inc. has announced it has been selected as a lead content provider for the MSN Gaming Zone, the new games channel on MSN. With this announcement, GameSpot Inc. adds Microsoft to a growing list of leading companies, including Yahoo, ESPN, and Deja News, who have selected GameSpot as a preferred or exclusive content provider in the area of computer and video games.

GameSpot Inc., a majority-owned subsidiary of Ziff-Davis, is a publisher of information about computer and video games. GameSpot Inc. will provide MSN Gaming Zone users with access to a co-branded edition of its PC games site, GameSpot and video games site.

"Whether the MSN user is looking for reviews of the newest games, previews of upcoming games, hints and strategies, gaming news, features, or information about the newest demos or company happenings, they'll now be able to get what they need," said Vince Broady, editorial director of GameSpot Inc.


Business Week Online and WinStar Telebase Launch Small Business Owners Resource

WinStar Communications, Inc. has announced an agreement with Business Week Online, a publication of The McGraw-Hill Companies, Inc., to launch "Research Resource" on Enterprise, a new website for entrepreneurs and small business executives.

The Research Resource provides small business owners and entrepreneurs with access to a comprehensive collection of authoritative business information resources, including: company profiles, financials and credit reports; trademarks and patents; biographical data; industry newsletters; and product and market research. Organized into five major research groups, each category leads to a database list where Business Week Online customers can retrieve information through keyword searches.

"The small business community has demonstrated an enormous appetite for practical information that can help them build their businesses," says Business Week Online's General Manager, David Smith. "Our small business site allows Business Week Online to expand and enhance our award-winning editorial coverage with best-of-class third-party services. We're pleased to team with WinStar Telebase to offer a rich and easy-to-use set of databases for this growing segment of our readership."

The Research Resource is located in the Market Research section of the Enterprise area at Business Week Online. The Research Resource is offered as an fee service, with searches and full text and data retrievals variably priced according to the database resource. Document retrieval pricing ranges from $2-$85 (U.S. customers).


FutureTrak International Set to Acquire Millennium Publications Inc.

FutureTrak International, Inc.has agreed to enter into a formal binding agreement to acquire Millennium Publications Inc., according to a joint announcement by the two companies today. Florida-based FutureTrak International will maintain its current headquarters and operate with two branches, Millennium to remain in Los Angeles. Under terms of the agreement, FutureTrak will acquire 100% of Millennium Publications, which is expected to generate in excess of $6 million in annual revenue. Millennium Publications Inc. will operate as a subsidiary of FutureTrak International, Inc.

Millennium Publications generates a number of magazines and books covering aspects of the video gaming industry, including video consoles and cutting-edge PC hardware and software. Their monthly publication, Gamers' Republic, provides gaming information including extensive features, in-depth interviews, game reviews and the latest news. Millennium also produces a number of full-color official strategy guides specifically covering systems and games from Sony, Sega, and Nintendo.

"This acquisition is in line with our continuing plans for bringing innovative solutions to the marketplace. The gaming industry is not only an exciting marketplace, but full of revenue potential," said Steve Remondini, president of FutureTrak. "Providing content, devices, and data services allows us the opportunity to interface technologies and give the customer the best functionality for the best price," he added.
