Pete May Named Publisher of Network Magazine

Miller Freeman announced that Pete May has been named Publisher of Network Magazine. May, currently in charge of Miller Freeman's Geneva, Switzerland subsidiary, returns to start with Network Magazine February 1, 1999.

May noted, "I'm excited to come back to the technology marketplace with Network Magazine. Miller Freeman has invested heavily in the past two years, doubling the circulation and enriching the editorial product of this magazine and its website. The product is excellent, but needs to be more aggressively marketed in the current competitive environment. My job will be to make sure the market understands the valuable role that this title and its readers play in the purchase of networking products."

May brings to the title 12 years of experience in high-tech publishing. From 1983 to 1992 he built the International Marketing division for M&T Publishing, which was acquired by Miller Freeman in 1993. May then ran the International Marketing division for Miller Freeman from 1993 to 1995. In 1995 he became Managing Director of Miller Freeman's Geneva, Switzerland, office.

Steve Schneiderman, vice president of Miller Freeman's Voice/Data Group, said the naming of May sends a strong signal to the marketplace about Miller Freeman's ongoing commitment to the Communications category. "Network Magazine started its approach to a client-focused model of service under the stewardship of Bill Howard, who has been promoted to the position of vice president of sales and marketing for Miller Freeman's high technology properties. As one of Miller Freeman's most customer-oriented executives, Pete May is sure to take this approach to the next level. We're confident that Pete and his staff will communicate the great value of Network Magazine to the networking market."

ParentPartners.com Launches

ParentPartners has launched an Internet-based service designed to help parents and other family members better understand their child and better participate in their learning, growth and development. The site is located at: http://www.parentpartners.com.

Don Burton, ParentPartners Founder and President, explains that he wants "to make it easy for parents to get new levels of personal attention and support from the world's best sources. Every child is unique and ParentPartners centers on individual children, helping parents to better understand and to better participate in each child's unique learning, growth and development."

The ParentPartners website takes advantage of the Internet's interactive features to highly personalize information, advice and services parents need to actively participate in their children's learning process. The personal information products are based on research commissioned by ParentPartners and developed by researchers at the Brazelton Center, Columbia University, Umass at Amherst, and Harvard Project Zero. The research categorizes early childhood development in the first five years into ages and stages in six distinct categories - - emotional; social; logic; language; visual and spatial; and movement. Parents can input information about their child and will receive back reports about where their child is in their development.

NewsDirectory.com Debuts

A pioneering Internet directory of news links has changed its name to better reflect its purpose and content. Ecola Newsstand, online since March 1995, has announced it is now named NewsDirectory.com. Ownership and management remain the same.

NewsDirectory.com presents over 8,000 categorized links to English-language news and media worldwide, including over 1,900 United States newspapers. Users can browse by location or subject, and can search by title. "This site is known for its simplicity and completeness," states Bob Poulsen, President of NewsDirectory.com. "That won't change. Other than our redesigned opening page, the big difference will be the new name -- NewsDirectory.com defines exactly what the site has always been."

Verified by human editors, each newspaper and magazine site listed at NewsDirectory.com must be maintained by a paper-printed publication, and must offer current English-language content online. About 300 new links are added each month; a summary page shows new listings for the current day and week. A guide to U.S. television broadcasters gives even more access to regional and local news. Bonus guides offer handy links to travel resources and U.S. colleges.
