NetCreations Launches Sprockets and Cogs Search Engine NetCreations, Inc. has launched Sprockets and Cogs, a specialized search engine that indexes technical sites containing information for Web developers and programmers, President Rosalind Resnick announced today. The brainchild of NetCreations Vice President of Technology Ryan Scott, Sprockets and Cogs allows developers to simulaneously search "cogs," or groupings of related websites, to zero in on the technical topics that they're looking for. For example, a developer looking for help with the PERL command, "sort," would select the PERL cog, then type in the relevant keyword to access a menu of links to related technical documentation. Sprockets and Cogs is powered by PinPoint, NetCreations' personalized website search tool that brings the power of Internet indexing to individual sites. "While working on PinPoint, I discovered a real need for a comprehensive source of technical documentation that none of the other search engines provided," Scott said. "I created Sprockets and Cogs to help other developers access this information quicker, easier and more efficiently." Upside Today Unveils New Site Design Upside Today, the online voice of Upside magazine, has unveiled a new website design offering readers new content, improved navigation and a more contemporary look and feel. This is the first site redesign since last March, when Upside Today began publishing original daily content. "The redesigned site reflects what Upside Today is all about -- delivering breaking industry news, financial news and in-depth features that resonate Upside's distinctive perspectives," Upside Today Editor Tish Williams said. "We're not a portal site that links readers to other news sites. Our objective is to give readers what they expect from Upside -- a concise, insider's view of the technology industry with a slant they won't find elsewhere." New to the redesigned site is the "Titan Ticker," which builds on the highly popular Bill Gates stock ticker that calculates and displays his daily net worth. Titan Ticker will present similar calculations for other technology giants, including Larry Ellison, Michael Dell and Jeff Bezos, among others. Regular Upside Today readers will continue to find the site's Top Stories section offering original content written by the Upside Today staff, with the News section delivering news and other content from around the Web each day.
