Seekbooks.com is a niche search engine devoted totally to books, offering small to mid-sized publishers and self-published authors an opportunity to add website listings. "Seekbooks revolutionizes the way books are being distributed and sold," said Doug DeGroot, creator of the search engine and president of Book Promotion, Inc., an industry innovator in promoting self-published authors and their books. "By cutting out the costs of distribution, bricks and mortar, end-sellers, and the endless chain of middlemen, the Seekbooks system gives authors and publishers back 60 percent of their profit on each book." "Book consumers don't realize that what they see in Barnes & Noble or on Amazon.com is only about 20 percent of the 60,000 books published each year," DeGroot said. "The book industry has a severely broken system," DeGroot said. "The reader is really being denied access to about 80 percent of the books written out there. And the poor authors and small publishers, who've poured their hearts and souls and money into these books, which are often excellent pieces of literature, have no chance to compete. Strategy First Acquires Publishing Rights for Computerhouse AB's "Clans" Strategy First has announced the acquisition of publishing rights to ComputerHouse AB's fantasy role-playing adventure Clans. Strategy First is the publisher of the high seas combat games Man of War and the upcoming real-time Man of War II. ComputerHouse AB is a Swedish development team with a string of international hits spanning a variety of genres to its credit. "Clans marks the first step in the building of a long and productive relationship between our two companies." Says Strategy First president Don McFatridge, "As a former developer turned publisher, we have the ability to recognize a masterful title when we see it. Clans represents an ideal opportunity for Strategy First to creatively collaborate with a brilliant team and also to expand our publishing efforts to incorporate third party titles." Set in a fantastical alternate universe, Clans puts the player in command of saving the lands from a malicious demon who has fueled a frenzy of hatred and corruption among the Clans. The player can choose the role of the Warrior, Elf, Dwarf or Barbarian, on his quest to find the fabled Crown of Peace and right the balance between good and evil in his world. While exploring a vast, fully reactive fantasy world, the player must combat relentless peril as he strives to outwit, outfight and out-spellcast cunningly adaptive AI foes. Budde, include being able to reach a broader audience in a more timely and cost-effective manner. "Overall, response to our online-only status has been quite positive," said Budde. Both publications are advertiser supported. Latino World News, which made its debut in 1987 as a business-to-business publication, will continue its original focus on the business, political, and economic news of Mexico, Central America, and South America.
