Kate Dobson Named Publisher of CMP's InformationWeek InformationWeek magazine has named former Scientific American publisher Kate Dobson as its publisher, announced Tony Uphoff, vice president and group publisher of CMP's Business Technology Group. Dobson replaces Uphoff, who continued to publish InformationWeek after assuming broader responsibilities last year. "Kate shares our thinking that a great magazine goes way beyond the printed page, becoming a powerful media brand to both the reader and advertiser," said Uphoff. "Kate's deep regard for creating a high-quality editorial product that readers and advertisers love and respect, combined with her experience in developing value-added brand extensions - such as face-to-face conferences that strengthen the reader community - will be invaluable to us as we continue to expand the InformationWeek media platform." Dobson began her nearly twenty-year career in publishing with CMP in 1981 as a district manager for Information Systems News, which later evolved into InformationWeek. In 1983 she joined The Economist as manager of its U.S. edition where she was instrumental in developing the launch of the 150 year-old British title. In 1985, she joined Scientific American as corporate advertising manager and was named associate publisher in 1993 and publisher last year. After all, it only takes a lot of imagination and a little exertion for us to create an exciting new world and lifestyles for ourselves. I always say, 'life isn't a dress rehearsal -- we should enjoy it to the fullest.' That's the attitude Living in Style will share with its readers."
