The story will be posted on the Romance.net website one chapter per week until the book's conclusion on June 1. A Perfect Family is the story of the Crighton family, a group rich with position, power and wealth. But with such fortune invariably comes jealousy and spite, and when three generations of Crightons gather at the family estate for a fiftieth birthday party, the planned celebration turns into a bitter battle for power - with the family inheritance as the prize. Harlequin's first major on-line book is the center of a promotion for Penny Jordan's ongoing Crighton family series. The Romance.net website will also feature the opportunity for visitors to purchase the new audio book version of this romantic family saga, as well as the paperback editions of the other titles in this series. The on-line book's concluding chapter will be coupled with the release of the newest title in the series, The Perfect Sinner (MIRA Books, July 1999). Zap.com to Launch Website for Fans of the New Star Wars Movie ZAP.COM, the Internet subsidiary of Zapata Corp., announced today that it plans to launch phantommenacenews.com, a new and independent Internet website designed solely for purposes of providing fans with links for obtaining information about the upcoming motion picture Star Wars Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace. Phantommenacenews.com will provide fans of the movie with links to Star Wars related news, commentary, and events throughout the Internet. Phantommenacenews.com is currently scheduled to debut next week. Zapata owns Zap Corporation, its Internet subsidiary, which operates the Internet sites Word and Charged. IDG's Publish Magazine Names Karl Elken Publisher Publish Magazine, a publication for graphic design and Web publishing professionals has announced the appointment of Karl Elken as Publisher. Karl Elken is a veteran publishing sales executive and brings to Publish extensive experience in technology publishing. Most recently, Elken served as the associate publisher of eMediaweekly, following nearly ten years in publishing and advertising sales. Top Authors, Other Attractions Set for Fourth Annual Los Angeles Times Festival of Books Deepak Chopra, Barbara Taylor Bradford, Sidney Sheldon, Terry McMillan, Esmeralda Santiago and Betty Friedan are a few of the top authors who will be featured at the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books, which is being presented in association with UCLA the weekend of April 24 and 25 at UCLA's Dickson Plaza. Admission to the Festival is free to the public, and parking on campus is $5. Hours are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Last year's Los Angeles Times Festival of Books drew approximately 110,000 people from all segments of the Southern California community. ``The Festival of Books is the only event of its kind in Southern California,'' said Narda Zacchino, The Times' associate editor and vice-president, and Festival co-chair. ``It's become a major literary event where hundreds of authors gather over a weekend to educate and entertain book lovers of all ages and backgrounds.'' The 1999 Festival of Books will feature more than 90 author panel discussions held in classrooms and lecture halls. The panels will focus on diverse topics such as global politics; The Art of Fiction; Coming of Age: Women Writers; and Religious Conversion. Also included will be panels featuring African American and Latino writers, bilingual panels, as well as the winners of the Times Book Prizes. Celebrity reading and storytelling will take place at the Los Angeles Times Storytelling Stage and the Target Stage. The Target Stage will also feature performances by popular characters including Spiderman, Spidergirl and Bear in the Big Blue House. The Barnes & Noble Stage will feature Discover Award winner Carrie Brown, E. Lynn Harris, David Guterson, Jonathan and Faye Kellerman, and actors Suzy Amis and Viggio Mortensen. More than 350 exhibitor booths will feature booksellers, publishers, libraries and literacy organization selling books and other reading-related merchandise.
