Under the agreement, Salon.com provides current book reviews from the pages of Salon Books to Rocket eBook users. In addition, Rocket eBook users get a "Best of Salon," a compilation of 75 literary articles, including book reviews, features and author interviews. "The Rocket eBook is cutting-edge technology," said Michael O'Donnell, CEO of Salon.com. "We are delighted to have this unique opportunity to reach readers and book lovers in a whole new way." "We've joined forces with the best companies throughout the entire publishing industry," said Martin F. Eberhard, NuvoMedia's CEO and co-founder. "We're excited to provide Rocket eBook owners with this sampling from Salon.com, one of the leading providers of literary content on the Web today." OUT Names Tom Beer Executive Editor Henry E. Scott, president and editorial director of Out Publishing, Inc., has announced the appointment of Tom Beer to the position of executive editor for OUT, a national gay and lesbian publication. Beer was formerly a deputy editor at OUT. He has been with the magazine since 1994 and has held the positions of assistant managing editor and managing editor. As executive editor Beer will report to Scott and be in charge of day-to-day content decisions at the magazine. Beer began his editorial career at Bantam Books in 1990, where he was last editor and has written for Poz and Salon. He is a graduate of Carleton College. "Tom has been an outstanding member of the editorial team for five years and has done an exceptional job in keeping the magazine in focus and in touch with our readers," said Scott. "His strong commitment to the magazine and the gay and lesbian community makes him an important part of our vision for OUT." James S. Berrien Named to the New Position of President - Forbes Magazine Forbes has announced that James S. Berrien, President of American Express Travelers Cheque Group, has been named to the new position of President - Forbes magazine, effective August 1. Berrien will have operating responsibility for advertising sales, marketing, promotion and circulation for Forbes magazine and its supplements, Forbes ASAP and Forbes FYI. He will also oversee the Forbes Management Conference Group and will report to Timothy C. Forbes, Chief Operating Officer. "My new role at Forbes gives me the chance to help shape the future of one of the greatest brands in the field of business information -- while at the same time returning to my roots in magazine publishing," Jim Berrien said. "I couldn't be more thrilled and delighted." Jim Berrien, 47, joined American Express in 1984 and has held a succession of key management posts in the company's financial and publishing divisions. He assumed his current position as President of the Travelers Cheque Group Worldwide in October, 1998. Before that, he was based in London as President of American Express Establishment Services Group in Europe, a division of American Express Travel Related Services. NetUSA, Inc. Acquires Silicon Valley High Tech Magazine NetUSA, Inc. has announced that it has purchased Silicon Valley High Tech Magazine, a Chinese language magazine devoted to the reporting and analysis of technological and marketing trends in high technology industries, from US Broadnet Communication, Inc., which had been the publisher of the magazine. NetUSA will take over the publication of Silicon Valley High Tech starting with the July issue. The magazine had previously been published in a newspaper-like format on a weekly basis, but NetUSA plans to transform it into a monthly magazine using full color gloss book paper. NetUSA also plans to maintain and further enhance the current online magazine edition of Silicon Valley High Tech. Also, while the magazine had been previously limited in circulation, NetUSA will make the magazine available in all major markets in the United States, as well as China and Taiwan starting with the July issue.
