America Online has announced a new alliance with National Public Radio. Under this agreement, programming from NPR will be integrated into AOL's News Channel. As a key programming partner in AOL's News Channel, NPR will provide national and international news coverage and in-depth analysis.

"More and more people are turning to AOL's News Channel 24 hours a day to read the latest in daily and breaking news," said Jonathan Sacks, Senior Vice President of AOL Interactive Services. "Our alliance with National Public Radio brings one of the most trusted names in journalism to AOL News and keeps us at the forefront of the increasing trend in online news consumption by providing timely, comprehensive and interactive coverage."

"This agreement brings select NPR news and commentary to the AOL community," said Kevin Klose, President and Chief Executive Officer at NPR. "Now, top NPR stories and analysis can be explored online through this interactive environment."

Quentin Hardy Joins Forbes As Sr. Editor Covering Technology

Quentin Hardy, a veteran technology reporter for The Wall Street Journal, has joined Forbes magazine as a Senior Editor covering the technology industry. Hardy spent eight years at the Journal, covering the Japanese banking crisis and market collapse in the paper's Tokyo bureau (1991-94) and the wireless industry and Silicon Valley while based in San Francisco (1994-99).

Hardy will work in Forbes' Silicon Valley bureau in Burlingame, headed by bureau chief Elizabeth Corcoran. Corcoran joined Forbes in February 1999 from The Washington Post. Both are new additions to the technology staff overseen by Executive Editor Dennis Kneale, who left the Journal last fall to join Forbes and oversee coverage of technology and health.

Dennis Kneale said, "Quentin Hardy is a wonderful story-teller with a real sense of urgency. He well understands the critical importance that high-tech holds for business and consumers and for our readers. He will be a great addition to our already-excellent bureau in Silicon Valley."

"Women.com is pleased to offer a travel site for women that goes beyond just the basics," said Ellen Pack, founder, senior vice president and general manager of Women.com Networks. "Our Travel Channel gives visitors the inside story on everything from secluded island resorts, to road rules for business travelers, to tips on how to pack for a two-week vacation."

Aarow Environmental Group, Inc. to Acquire Utica Publishing Corporation

Aarow Environmental Group, Inc. has announced it has reached a tentative agreement to purchase all of the outstanding shares of Utica Publishing Corporation, an Arkansas based publishing company. The final agreement, according to Utica's president, Sam Yates, will be completed upon obtaining mezzanine financing for the purpose of restructuring its current loans.

"Utica recently withdrew its filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, for an initial public offering of it's own stock," according to Yates, "as part of the final process of preparation for being acquired by Aarow. The bridge-financing project is our last step and as soon as that process is completed, we will proceed with a closing."

In addition to commercial printing, Utica Publishing Corporation publishes several niche magazines including Arkansas Chronicle, an electronically distributed monthly news magazine, and La Cronica, the only statewide bilingual (Spanish/English) publication. On June 11, 1999, Utica inaugurated a third magazine, La Jornada, a weekly Spanish language general interest publication focused on the Western part of Arkansas. Plans are also in the works for an environmental publication for the farming, poultry, and hog industry.
