Top Magazine Editors Join Ingredients.com

Two national women's magazine editors have been named to editorial positions with Ingredients.com, a new specialty retail destination launching this fall. Monica Bernstein, formerly a senior editor with Woman's Day will serve as Vice President and Editor in Chief; and Rebecca Nelson, a 10-year veteran in beauty and fashion editorial, was named Beauty and Style Director. Together the editors will spearhead the editorial content for Ingredients.com's soon-to-debut online magazine.

Produced by Ingredients.com, the magazine's mission is to educate consumers about personal care issues. The magazine's editorial will provides advice based on the most current trends, research and expert opinions in the fields of beauty, fitness, nutrition, health and psychology.

"Monica and Rebecca are seasoned magazine editors. They come to us with a proven track record for optimizing traditional editorial formats and re-inventing them as the market evolves," said Katherine Legatos, co-founder and Co-CEO of Ingredients.com. "Their ability to build Ingredients.com's magazine into a leader in the beauty and personal care category will be instrumental to the company's plan for capturing market share and building brand loyalty."

"In the past, print magazines set the standards for editorial style and Web sites borrowed from them. Emerging trends indicate the opposite effect today. Web-based publications are leading the charge for ground-breaking editorial," said Bernstein. "A format that employs fast delivery, multiple points of entry and creative visual cues will support the problem/solution promise that's integral to Ingredients.com's benefits-based goals."

IUMA Launches Artist Uplink

The Internet Underground Music Archive (IUMA) has released Artist Uplink, IUMA's free self-publishing website creation tool for emerging and unsigned bands. Artists will be able to log onto IUMA or Yahoo! Digital to access Artist Uplink to create free websites. As part of the rollout, Yahoo! users will have free access to Artist Uplink through Yahoo! Digital, Yahoo!'s new multimedia digital site launched last week.

Artists can use Artist Uplink to upload and edit bios, band member photos, tour dates, images, artwork, songs and lyrics. Once their content is uploaded, artists can customize their sites. All audio is available in streaming RealAudio and MP3 format. Once their sites are up, artists can activate message boards, email fan clubs and can sell music directly to fans.

"Artist Uplink is the next-generation tool for emerging artists," said Antony Brydon, general manager of IUMA. "Our artists have told us that they want more than a cookie-cutter page on someone else's site -- they want their own unique web sites. These artists already have creative control of their music, and Artist Uplink allows them to express the same level of creativity and individuality in their sites, and showcase their music to millions of Yahoo! users."

Refdesk Relaunched Today

Refdesk.com, Inc., has announced the re-launch of its website. Refdesk.com is a resource for facts on the internet containing links to factual information on numerous subjects. Refdesk.com receives nearly a million visits per month. The creator of Refdesk is Bob Drudge, a social worker from Maryland. Bob is the father of Matt Drudge, the author of the Drudge Report and the host of radio and TV shows.

The layout of Refdesk.com was overhauled to make the organization clear and many sections were removed to make navigation easy. The most popular sections were moved to the home page and several steps were taken to make the site load quickly. Bob says, “We worked with web pros to make it clear and easy to understand. It was a major effort, but worth it, as our users greatly prefer the new site to the old.”

Bob adds, “The net is filled with an stunning variety of useful factual information. Students, journalists, business people, researchers, in fact, everyone can benefit from all this free information. But it is difficult to find the good stuff amongst the chaos of all the silly and irrelevant sites. I have spent five years seeking and organizing just the good stuff. The result is refdesk.com.”
