CIO Magazine to Expand Size, Enhance Content

IDG's CIO magazine has announced plans to expand editorial content, increase page size, and switch to a perfect binding format. Effective January 15, 2000, CIO magazine's content, design and overall size will change. In addition to case studies and analysis of technology and business, the expanded magazine promises to include more opinions, increased emerging technology coverage, highlights of legislative happenings, and in-depth company and people profiles. CIO will continue to publish 23 times/year: twice monthly with its traditional combo December 15th/January 1st issue.

"CIO was created 12 years ago as a champion for the unsung hero of worldwide business organizations -- the chief information officer," says CIO magazine Editor in Chief Abbie Lundberg. "CIOs are now in the executive boardroom and central to the success of private and public organizations alike. Their decisions impact not only their company's bottom line, but the global economy and society at large. With the stakes higher than ever before, it'''s time for CIO magazine to turn up the volume, bring CIOs together and facilitate an ongoing conversation on the critical issues. The enhancements will provide readers with a greater voice in the magazine and show a clear collaboration between CIOs and CIO magazine."

CIO Communications, Inc. was formed in 1987 to help chief information officers (CIOs), information technology (IT) executives and other senior management executives succeed in their enterprises through the use of information technology. In addition to publishing CIO magazine, the company also produces the CIO website and develops and produces CIO Executive Programs. CIO magazine is a publication of International Data Group (IDG).

Utne Web Watch Provides Coverage of Altenative Publications

The Utne Reader goes daily? Almost, thanks to Utne Web Watch Daily, which was officially launched September 17. For 15 years, Utne Reader has combed through more than 2,000 alternative publications every month, bringing readers the best of the alternative press six times a year. With the rise of the Internet and its voluminous information sources, Utne Reader has had to step up the pace.

The Utne Web Watch Daily is updated every weekday with three links to articles culled from all corners of the Web by Editor Parker Hodges. Utne Web Watch Daily pulls links from publications as large as Wired and The Village Voice and as small as The Nashville Scene.

"Utne Web Watch Daily has the same goal as the Utne Reader -- we seek out alternative news and original points of view, the stories that the mainstream media miss," says Hodges. "The Internet just gives us more to choose from."

eWatch Inc. Now Monitors Web Publications

eWatch Inc., an Internet monitoring company, has announced the availability of a monitoring service for web publications. The eWatch Web Publications coverage indexes more than 1,000 web-based newspapers, magazines, e-zines, and other editorial news and information sites such as the L.A. Times.com, Chicago Tribune.com, Slate.com and CNN.com. A complete list of monitored web sites is available at: ewatch.com.

Companies routinely monitor print and broadcast media for news that affects themselves and their industries. The number of publications on the web is increasing daily, and those sites are updated much more often than their print or broadcast counterparts. A recent Columbia Journalism School survey revealed that 50% of print newspapers and magazines have online editions, a number that is expected to reach 70% by 2001. Most of these web publications contain original content not appearing in print, with more than one-fifth reporting that as much as half of their content is original.

SageMaker Adds Energy Publications to Its EIP Platform

SageMaker, Inc., a provider of Enterprise Information Portals (EIP), has announced that Intelligence Press, Inc. and EconoMatters, publishers of energy related magazines and newsletters, will be providing their publications on its EIP browser, SageWave.
