Onvia.com Launches Small Business News Center

Onvia.com has announced the launch of news, analysis and small business-focused content to its site. Lead by former MSNBC executive producer, Mark Pawlosky, Onvia.com has put together a team of twelve reporters/editors to write, produce and report on news relevant to small businesses. The news will be updated hourly throughout the business day and will include exclusive stories from a Washington D.C bureau, with legislative and governmental news. Other wire services being used include Reuters and Screaming Media.

In addition to breaking news and enterprise features, the content includes stories from business publications as Fast Company and Business Week. How-to advice and columns are also a key component. Jeff Zbar, SOHO expert and author (Home Office Know-How), and Jay Conrad Levinson, author of Guerrilla Marketing, are regular contributors. All coverage and articles will focus on five main areas of concern to small businesses: leadership, employees, ecommerce, customers and the wired world.

"Although a part of an ecommerce site, we have a rock-solid wall between content and commerce," said Pawlosky, Onvia.com's vice president and editor-in-chief. "We have been given complete editorial autonomy and will run the department like an independent newsroom. Because of our high standards, we've been able to attract a top-notch team of seasoned journalists with stellar credentials."

Prior to joining Onvia.com, Pawlosky was an executive producer of MSNBC.com. He was also chief editor of MSN News and a reporter for the Wall Street Journal. Managing editor in charge of day-to-day operations is Philipp Harper, a twenty-year veteran of print and Internet journalism and a founding editor of MSNBC.com. Other team members hail from Wired News, Associated Press, American City Business Journals, MSNBC, San Jose Mercury News and Seattle Times.
