Curtco Freedom Group Announces the Launch of CRM Magazine

The CurtCo Freedom Group's Customer Relationship Management (CRM) division has announced the merger of two editorial products -- Sales & Marketing Automation and Customer Interaction Center magazine -- to create CRM Magazine. The new magazine will debut at the eCRM 2000 Expo and Conference co-located with Internet World Expo in April.

Thomas J. Villani, Executive Vice President of the CRM Division explains, "Close to four years ago, we launched our first venture into the burgeoning CRM arena--Sales & Field Force Automation (now Sales & Marketing Automation)--which quickly became the "bible" for the industry. Since that time, we have created a variety of CRM related publications and initiatives. However, as the market continues to evolve, so do our publications. With this in mind, and in the interest of our readers and advertisers, we have decided to move and produce Customer Relationship Management Magazine."

Performance Computing and Windows Systems Magazines Cease Publication

CMP Media Inc. has announced that it will cease publication of Performance Computing Magazine and Windows Systems Magazine (formerly known as Windows NT Systems). Both magazines were part of the former Miller Freeman technology portfolio recently integrated with CMP Media. The production run for each magazine concludes with the January 2000 edition.

"Looking across the CMP Media portfolio of properties, we knew we would best serve our customers by streamlining our business portfolio," said Regina Starr Ridley, president of CMP's Specialized Technologies Group. "The decision was difficult to make, given the dedication of Windows Systems' and Performance Computing's staffs to the publications and their histories with the company," said Ridley. "However, we are confident that our readers' information needs and our advertisers' need to effectively reach the most technically knowledgeable buyers of high-level IT products can be best met by other CMP products such as InformationWeek, Intelligent Enterprise, Sys Admin, Dr. Dobb's Journal, and Network Magazine."

Performance Computing, formerly UNIX Review, was started in 1983. Miller Freeman bought the publication in 1985 and for many years it was one of the company's largest and most successful publications. Windows Systems, launched in 1997, focused on systems management and administration.

barnesandnoble.com Acquires Equity Stake in Enews.com

barnesandnoble.com, Inc. has announced that it will expand its presence in the online magazine subscription market by acquiring an equity stake of up to 40 percent in Enews.com, a retailer of magazine subscriptions on the Internet. This investment is the first of several barnesandnoble.com plans to make to expand its product offerings in areas related to its core business.

"Enews.com is a perfect strategic fit," said Jonathan Bulkeley, chief executive officer of barnesandnoble.com. "Our complementary product lines offer outstanding cross-merchandising opportunities, and we believe an equity relationship permits broader integration and enhancement of the magazine section of the bn.com site, which in turn will generate stronger commission revenues through magazine sales."

ANG Newspapers to Buy Milpitas Post Newspapers, Inc.

ANG Newspapers, publishers of 18 daily and weekly San Francisco Bay Area newspapers, has announced that the company has reached an agreement to purchase the Milpitas Post and its two sister newspapers, The Berryessa Sun of North San Jose and The Fremont Bulletin. The three newspapers form the independently-owned Milpitas Post Newspapers, Inc. Trust and have a combined circulation of 53,900.

"Obviously, ANG Newspapers is very excited about the Milpitas Newspapers joining our expanding group of Bay Area community newspapers," said Scott McKibben, ANG's President and Publisher. "The Post is a high-quality suburban newspaper and complements our growth strategy quite nicely."

McKibben foresees few, if any, changes to the Post and its sister publications. In keeping with ANG Newspapers' acquisition policies, all three newspapers will continue to be managed, edited and reported by their current staffs, without layoffs. At the Post, Managing Editor Robert J. Devincenzi will assume the role of publisher, replacing founding publisher and editor, Mort Levine. Levine started the Post in 1954, with his wife Elaine. They have run the paper continuously since then, except for a ten year period between 1980 - 1990, after which they repurchased the newspaper through a trust in 1990. Mort Levine will continue to write for the Post's Opinion page.
