P.O.V. Magazine to Stop Publishing

Freedom Magazines Inc., has announced it will cease publication of P.O.V. magazine -- a lifestyle magazine for young, professional men -- with the February 2000 issue and close its New York City offices at the end of the week. Approximately 40 P.O.V. employees were informed of the closing today.

"With P.O.V., we produced a high quality magazine in terms of philosophy, content and design," said Sam Wolgemuth, president of Freedom Communications, which purchased P.O.V. in April 1996. "We were the first to identify this market, but the stakes have risen considerably in the men's category. Our company has decided to focus its resources in other areas. We want to thank all of our associates at P.O.V. for their hard work and passion."

P.O.V. made significant strides in the young men's market, growing from a self-published magazine financed by credit cards to an audited circulation of 360,000. P.O.V. was named Adweek's Startup of the Year in 1997 and one of Adweek's Hot Up & Comers in 1999. P.O.V. has been pursuing an online venture for young professionals, LiveLarge.com, and expects to launch the site in 2000.
