Beliefnet, Inc. Appoints Former CMP Group President Tony Uphoff as CEO

Beliefnet, Inc. has announced that Tony Uphoff has been named president and chief executive officer of the company. Mr. Uphoff will lead all business operations for Beliefnet, an online destination devoted to multi-faith religion, spirituality, and morality.

Mr. Uphoff will also become a member of Beliefnet's board of directors, joining Beliefnet co-founders Robert Nylen and Steven Waldman, Sharon Shepard of Mass Ventures, and Jo Tango and Dan Nova of Highland Capital Partners, the company's principle funder. Highland has helped build such firms as eToys, Ask Jeeves, Lycos, Wit Capital, MapQuest, NextCard, Be Free and Medscape.

Previously a group president of CMP Media, Mr. Uphoff was responsible for CMP's business technology group, which includes magazines, online sites, trade shows, and conferences. Before becoming a CMP group president, Uphoff was publisher of Information Week. Prior to joining CMP, Uphoff was vice president of Ziff-Davis.

"Today media companies must place the Web at their cores," commented Mr. Uphoff. "Beliefnet is a unique new media and e-commerce company that starts with the Internet at its foundation. As an idea, it has completely captured my imagination and appeals to me both professionally and personally. I couldn't be more excited to be joining this team."
