Blackhistory.com Launches

All Media Productions, an educational publishing and production company, has launched blackhistory.com. Timed to coincide with Black History Month, Blackhistory.com is being designed as a user-friendly resource for students, teachers and the general public as a teaching aid, as well as a place to network with others.

The site's primary focus is "untold history." According to Linda Langs, president of All Media, "There are a lot of untold stories relating to Black history and the Black experience that need to be shared with others. As we planned the development of this site, we were amazed by the amount of research, stories, and personal interest that people shared with us. We want to give the public a place to share those stories, as well as offer a traditional database of historical information."

To facilitate this, the site is inviting the general public to add their research, stories, and articles directly to the site - prior to the official launch on February 1, 2000. "These stories may be drawn from personal experience, historical frameworks, or can be written through interviews," explains Langs. "Anything that contributes to the understanding of Black History is welcomed on the site." After posting their works, writers will have an opportunity to invite others to privately view their efforts.

A teachers' and students' site will be added later in the month. Students who wish to contribute to the site will have a special area and may do so individually or as part of a class effort. The student site will have filters to help keep the story and discussion areas safe and appropriate for children.
