Discovery Communications, Inc. Announces Formation of Discovery.com, Inc.

Discovery Communications, Inc. (DCI), has announced the formation of a new company that consolidates all of its Internet offerings into one new media business. The company will be called Discovery.com, Inc. Central to the new offering will be ``the World of Discovery,'' a series of vertical portals that will provide content and commerce aligned with Discovery's brands: Discoveries, Health, Animals/Pets, Travel, Lifestyles, School and Kids.

``Discovery is ready made for the Internet,'' said John S. Hendricks, Founder, Chairman and CEO of DCI, who will also serve as Chairman and CEO of Discovery.com, Inc. ``Everything about Discovery -- our brand, reputation, content, promotional ability and global reach -- will make us a consumer home- run.''

Hendricks has named Michela English as President and COO, Discovery.com. Since 1996, English has served as President of DCI's Discovery Enterprises Worldwide unit, building strong Discovery business units on multiple fronts including online, education, home video, retail, publishing, consumer products and licensing. English will transition to her new post beginning today.

``Our goal is to make Discovery.com an integral part of everyday life,'' said English. ``The dual appeal of our new web tools and the content and commerce opportunities offered by our seven vertical portals will make Discovery.com a daily destination for consumers.'' She continued, ``Our 'super- vertical' strategy offers a convenient home base on the World Wide Web with easy access to information, services and products that will both enhance and simplify people's lives. The seven verticals represent some of the largest Internet revenue opportunities from both advertising and e-commerce transactions.''

Discovery.com, Inc. is a subsidiary of Discovery Communications, Inc. (DCI)., a privately held, global entity headquartered in Bethesda, MD. DCI's ownership consists of four shareholders -- Liberty Media Corporation, Cox Communications, Advance/Newhouse Communications and John S. Hendricks, the company's founder, chairman and CEO.
