Karen Mullarkey Joins Zing.com as Editor in Chief

Zing, Inc., a digital photography community, has announced the appointment of Karen Mullarkey to the position of Editor in Chief. Mullarkey will direct all feature and photographic content, and guide community activities for the site. Zing also announced the launch of in focus, Zing's new online photo magazine. Karen will also be speaking at the Seybold Seminars Digital Imaging Day to further articulate her vision of digital photography on the Internet on February 8, 2000 in Boston, MA.

"Joining Zing.com is a tremendous opportunity. After many years of reaching the mainstream audience through popular consumer magazines, I recognized that the shift toward digital photography and the Web would revolutionize consumer photography," said Mullarkey. "At Zing, my goal is to help people take, manage and share pictures and, even more important, tell the stories behind the pictures. Zing can make personal photography a more frequent and important part of life."

A highly regarded expert in the field, Mullarkey was photography editor for several top-tier publications throughout her career including Rolling Stone, New York Magazine and Sports Illustrated. At Newsweek in 1984, she was the first woman to ever hold the position of director of photography at a U.S. news magazine.

"We stole Karen away from New York's traditional photography and publishing industry. At Zing, Karen will be able to guide and stimulate the picture-taking, sharing and story telling efforts of the millions of people every month who use Zing as their personal online photography center," said Mark Platshon, president and chief executive officer, Zing, Inc.
