EMusic.com Inc. has announced
the completion of its acquisition of privately-held
Tunes.com.
Tunes.com is the operator of RollingStone.com.
With the completion of the Tunes.com acquisition, combined with
EMusic.com's recent acquisition of Cductive.com, EMusic.com now
employs 190 people. Operations for RollingStone.com will
continue to be based in Chicago.
``How people discover, discuss, purchase and listen to music will change dramatically over the next decade -- ask anyone under the age of 25 about MP3s and downloadable music,'' said Gene Hoffman, EMusic.com president and CEO. ``The integration of EMusic.com and RollingStone.com puts our family of Web sites at the forefront of how music will be promoted, acquired and experienced.'' ``One of the main missions of our magazine is to give readers extra insight into the latest music and artists: to help them stay connected,'' said Jann Wenner, founding editor and publisher of Rolling Stone magazine and chairman of Wenner Media Incorporated. ``Similarly, we look forward to working with EMusic.com to experiment in ways the Web can tighten this connection even further. We want to help remove the walls and filters between artists, their fans and the music itself.'' EMusic.com has already started to merge and integrate its downloadable music and RollingStone.com. For example, if RollingStone.com visitors search for information on the popular rock band Bush, in addition to the latest band news, concert Webcasts and biographical information, they will be presented with an optional link to Bush's downloadable MP3 catalog on EMusic.com. RollingStone.com also features music recommendations and a weekly ``Top 10'' download list from EMusic.com. The EMusic.com website has also begun featuring news, artist bios and other information from RollingStone.com.
