Friday, February 18, 2000 Media Cynic | Forum | Advertising | Classifieds | Jobs Girl Magazine Provides a New Voice to its Readers Girl Magazine, launched in 1999 as a multi-cultural teen magazine, will expand its editorial coverage to specifically reflect and respond to the interests and needs of African-American Girls ages 12-19. The next issue of Girl is due on newsstands April 4th. Girl Magazine is a Lewit/LeWinter/Freedom publication. ``Girl is taking a pro-active approach by listening to the readers' desire for ownership of a magazine. We will still have a multi-cultural focus, however, our emphasis will be on Girls of color. The editorial change is a natural evolution,'' says Corynne Corbett, Editorial Director of Girl, whose journalistic background includes Elle, Essence and Self. ``As urban and suburban African American youth set the trends in fashion, entertainment and music, Girl Magazine will now become a reflection and extension of this cultural movement,'' says Nancy LeWinter, who along with her partner Julie Lewit, are the publishers of Girl magazine.
