News Communications Sells Its Interest in New York Blade News to Washington Blade, Inc.

News Communications, Inc. has announced the sale of its 50% interest in New York Blade News, Inc., publisher of the weekly New York Blade News. News Communications sold its interest to The Washington Blade, Inc., which will continue publishing New York Blade News. The two companies launched the free weekly newspaper in October of 1997 to serve the gay and lesbian market in the New York City metropolitan area.

The two companies contributed their respective strengths to launch New York Blade News almost two and half years ago. New senior management at News Communications has made a commitment to grow its more established titles.

``The sale is the first step toward allowing News Communications to focus on its core properties,'' said Steven Farbman, president and CEO of News Communications, which publishes 24 weekly newspapers. ``The Blade is a terrific publication with a strong following among its readers and advertisers. We believe the publication will benefit from having a single owner, particularly one with tremendous expertise in the gay and lesbian market.''
