Backwire.com Launches Personalized Email News Service

Posted on March 6, 2000

Backwire.com has announced the launch of its flagship offering -- a free service that provides consumers personalized news and information tailored to their lifestyle interests via email. Individuals who subscribe to Backwire.com can receive daily or weekly emails in more than 30 lifestyle categories.

Backwire.com editors cover hundreds of premium media sites every day, identify the top articles by category and e-mail subscribers summaries, along with direct links. Categories range from Entertainment to Business and Investing to weekly categories ranging from Women's Health & Fitness to Seniors. In addition to receiving news and information in the specialized categories, subscribers will also receive updates regarding e-commerce specials and have the opportunity to participate in group buying.

``With more than half a century of publishing experience between them, our editorial team members serve as savvy, personal information shoppers for our subscribers,'' said Backwire.com CEO, Tom MacIsaac. ``It's the best way to deliver customized, premium content.''

Backwire.com's goal, according to MacIsaac, is to save Web users time by giving them a better way to access Web-based news and information and to save them money by delivering ecommerce opportunities pre-screened by Backwire personal shoppers. In addition, he hopes to stimulate higher readership of news and information by making it easier for older-aged Internet novices to reach the sites Backwire covers, while engaging young adults who greatly prefer electronic media to print media.

``If you're a cooking enthusiast, for example, our personal shoppers will notify you about sales from leading food and wine merchants,'' said Jay Dunn, Co-Founder and President. ``If the Internet is the world's biggest mall, then Backwire.com has someone in every store that's important to you. By bringing the sales to you, you no longer need to waste time wading through a variety of e*commerce sites.''
