Cahners Acquires Casual Living Magazine

Cahners, a business-to-business publisher, has announced that it has acquired Casual Living magazine from Bolger Publications in Minneapolis. Casual Living, published 11 times a year, is a trade magazine in the casual furniture industry. It serves retailers that sell casual furnishings and accessories, including casual furniture specialty stores, hearth and patio stores, mass merchants/discount stores, home centers/hardware stores, catalog/mail-order companies, pool and patio stores, furniture stores, department stores and garden centers. Readers also include manufacturers and suppliers to the industry.

Cahners has made eight other acquisitions in the past year and has launched three major websites and two magazines. Its recent acquisitions include LA411, MarketCast, MicroDesign Resources, Publisher's Video Group, the Ashley Group, rpm and Plants Sites & Parks magazines, and an equity stake in PartMiner.

``The purchase of Casual Living gives Cahners full coverage of the home furnishings industries,'' said Brian Nairn, Cahners president and chief operating officer. ``With the existing titles in our Retail Furnishings Group, Cahners now produces the leading business-to-business publication in every segment of the home furnishings industries, including Furniture/Today, Gifts & Decorative Accessories, Home Accents Today, Home Textiles Today, Holiday Decor, Garden Decor, SoHo, Kids Today and Playthings.''

Casual Living will be part of Cahners' Retail Furnishings Group based in Greensboro, N.C. Marion Kelly has been named publisher of the new acquisition. He also retains his position as publisher of Home Accents Today. Cheminne Taylor-Smith, formerly managing editor of Home Accents Today, has been appointed editor-in-chief of Casual Living.
