GPI To Debut Magazine Targeted At Young Musicians

Posted on March 17, 2000

GPI Music Group, a publisher of musician magazines and related Web sites, is preparing to launch a new title aimed at young musicians who create, compose and record with their computers. MC2 (Music/Computers/Culture), which will combine the graphics of a print magazine with the interactive capabilities of a website, will debut this June.

MC2 is designed to reach young musicians, ages 15-25, who are increasingly being drawn to the computer as their primary creative tool. Hands-on, how-to articles that will appear in the print version of the magazine will be enhanced with streaming audio and video tutorials on the publication's website. GPI Music Group, a division of Miller Freeman PSN, publishes Guitar Player, Keyboard, Bass Player and Gig magazines. MC2 will join the magazines and their websites as part of the company's newly launched Internet super site, MusicPlayersNetwork.

``The computer has become the primary source for creating and enjoying music by the emerging generation of performers,'' said MC2 Publisher Valerie Pippin. ``Their information needs fall outside the scope of the established musician magazines, and they are hungry for information on how to make the most of the latest computer-based music gear. MC2 intends to become a must-read for this passionate community of music and computer creatives.''

The print edition of MC2 will feature stories on a range of music, computer and Internet technologies and performers, from music-generating grooveboxes to the Web innovators pioneering new ways to create and perform music. Artist profiles will showcase both established and breaking artists who are making an impact on contemporary culture with their computers. Product reviews will include tutorials to help readers master the latest tools. The online component of MC2 will include customized Web-only content including product demos, shareware audio, Internet and video apps, previews of new music and animation, and partnered promotions and giveaways.
