American City Business Journals Expanding Web Operations

American City Business Journals Inc., a publisher of local business newspapers, is expanding its Internet operation to provide a Web destination for local business news, information and business solutions in each of the 41 markets it serves. At the same time, the company has changed the name of its online subsidiary to bizjournals.com to more closely link its Web operations to each of its established business journals.

``This is a new name for our new direction on the Internet,'' said Ray Shaw, chairman of American City. ``We're expanding the sites to give our readers not only the latest in local business news, but information and services to help business professionals grow, manage and operate their companies.''

Each of the local bizjournals.com sites, which can be accessed through the company's home page or directly, currently features local business news updated throughout each business day, news from the local business journal, and links to 40 other local sites. The bizjournals.com sites also feature news from American City's Washington Bureau, business advice columns, small business advice, and Industry Journals featuring industry-specific news from around the nation.

``Our readers rely on the business journals to be the top source of local business news and information,'' said Gary Frey, president of bizjournals.com. ``More and more, readers are looking to the Web to supplement their subscriptions with additional business services and local networking opportunities. Working hand in hand with each American City newspaper, we intend to give them the very best of these.''

American City Business Journals is headquartered in Charlotte, N.C., with operations in 41 markets. Weekly readership of the business journals exceeds 3.2 million. American City Business Journals staff includes over 500 journalists. In addition to metropolitan business newspapers, American City operates Street & Smith's Sports Group, which publishes three motorsports periodicals, SportsBusiness Journal and five sports annuals.
