Scarbrough Joins ESPN The Magazine as Senior Editor ``To get Neal onto our masthead is a real coup for us,'' said Papanek. ``In addition to a wealth of editing experience, Neal's high levels of energy and creativity fit perfectly with the magazine's personality.'' Scarbrough's appointment comes as Deputy Editor Roxanne Jones -- who had overseen the magazine's professional football coverage since its launch - assumes responsibility for the sports biweekly's expanding lifestyle coverage. Jones will supervise the front-of-the-book department, ``The Life,'' all of its ``Life'' special sections and lifestyle related features that cross all sports. Recently named the 1999 Print Journalist of the Year by the Colorado Association of Black Journalists, Scarbrough comes to ESPN The Magazine with an extensive newspaper background. His previous positions include sports editor of The Tennessean, deputy metro editor and assistant sports editor of the Chicago Sun-Times, night sports editor of The Seattle Times, national editor of The National Sports Daily and chief of its professional football desk. Additionally, he held copy editor posts with Newsday, The Sacramento Bee and The Denver Post, where he began his career in 1984 after graduating from the University of Colorado with a bachelor of science degree in news editorial.
