Wednesday, April 26, 2000 Media Cynic | Forum | Advertising | Classifieds | Jobs Spier New York Acquired by Private Investment Group A group of private investors with a strong interest in media ventures has acquired category-leading Spier New York, with the mission of expanding the book publishing advertising agency's expertise in niche marketing and branding to magazines, newspapers and online media. The new investors have given Spier CEO Bethany Chamberlain their full support to pursue strategic alliances that will allow the $35 million, 40-person Spier New York agency to expand its services and categories. ``We're very pleased to be given this kind of fresh start, without the usual tumult that comes with change of ownership,'' said Chamberlain. ``What attracted this group of investors to us is the run of new business we've secured recently, and the depth of creative and strategic talent within our walls. That's a real vote of confidence in our people and the current direction we're taking Spier New York.'' Among Spier New York's most recent notable wins were the branding campaign for The New Republic's new design; a print campaign for Internet-based Kaboombooks.com, a specialist in scholarly and hard-to-find titles; and Reed Elsevier's Bowker.com, which operates Bowker's Books In Print, Literary Market Place and Ulrich's Guide to Periodicals.
