Cahners Sets September Launch For Broadband Communications Portal

The Telecommunications Group of Cahners Business Information has announced the pending launch, set for September 1, 2000, of Broadband Week, a new business-to-business newspaper devoted to high-speed, high-bandwidth communications networking, applications and content along with a companion Web portal, Fattcity.com. The announcement was recently made in conjunction with the Supercomm 2000 Show held at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, and the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers' Cable-Tec Expo 2000 held at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Las Vegas.

Broadband Week aims to keep business executives and technologists apprised of the latest developments in the rapidly changing field of broadband communications and enable them to make sound business decisions related to the effective use and exploitation of broadband information delivery. The Web portal, Fattcity.com, will provide professionals with an online resource to help them quickly locate information and broadband-related products. Broadband Week will also cover business management, customer service, training, governmental and regulatory issues, standards development and other operational issues.

Broadband Week has been a special section within Cahners' Multichannel News. After the launch, this new publication will be a stand-alone, with expanded distribution, and coverage as well as its own staff. Tom Brooksher, group publisher, said four issues would be published in 2000, with the first issue appearing in September. Initial circulation will total 55,000 subscribers.

Paul Audino will be the associate publisher/ad director of Broadband Week. A 16-year-Cahners veteran, Audino has been associate publisher of Multichannel News. He will continue to work out of Cahners Television and Telecommunications Group headquartered in New York.

Bill Menezes has been named editor of the new publication. Menezes was previously editor of the broadband section of Multichannel News, and news and business editor for Wireless Week, a trade publication focusing on the wireless communications industry. He will continue to operate out of Cahners' Highlands Ranch offices.
