Barnes & Noble.com Chooses iUniverse Technology for Publishing Program

Barnes & Noble.com has announced that its new Publish Your Book program, which went live on the bn.com website this week, is powered by iUniverse.com. The iUniverse.com technology enables Barnes & Noble.com to offer ebook and print-on-demand publishing services for unpublished writers and authors whose works are out of print. In November of last year Barnes & Noble, Inc. acquired a 49 percent ownership interest in iUniverse.com

``The Barnes & Noble.com Publish Your Book program is a giant step on the road to the democratization of publishing in that it puts the power back into the hands of writers, where it belongs,'' said Steve Riggio, vice chairman of Barnes & Noble.com. ``All books in the program will be available for order on our Web site, through any Barnes & Noble store as well as throughout the entire iUniverse.com distribution network.''

The program can be found at: publishyourbook.iuniverse.com. Services range from $99 to $234 for new manuscripts. There is no charge for out-of-print manuscripts. Royalties range from 20% for print sales to 50% for electronic sales. Books can be submitted online or by regular mail, except for out-of-print manuscripts which can only be submitted by regular mail. The programs are similar to what is offered on iUniverse.com and include Writers Club Press and Authors Choice. A program with a Barnes and Noble.com name or imprint is not offered.
