C-SPAN And Audible Join Forces in Digital Audio Distribution Agreement

C-SPAN and Audible, Inc. have announced a content distribution agreement in which C-SPAN programming will be available in audio format at audible.com in early July 2000. Audible.com is a provider of Internet-delivered spoken audio for PC-based listening or mobile playback on AudibleReady portable digital audio players. C-SPAN provides access to public affairs programming via cable, satellite and the Internet. In addition to the content distribution agreement, Audible and C-SPAN will work together to market this initiative.

Among the C-SPAN programs the companies expect to make available are Booknotes, Washington Journal, American Perspectives, America and the Courts, Road to the White House and C-SPAN2's Book TV. Listeners who are interested in accessing C-SPAN audio at audible.com will be able to log on to the site, download the free software and select audio titles. Each title can be downloaded to the listener's PC in its entirety or streamed for immediate listening.

``This partnership with Audible allows C-SPAN to increase our audience by utilizing new technology and new products. With an election year, national political campaigns and platform hearings, C-SPAN's programming will be a major source for extensive political campaign coverage,'' said Robert Kennedy, Executive Vice President, C-SPAN.

``Audible welcomes C-SPAN as an audio content provider,'' said John Barth, Senior Director of Original Programming at Audible, Inc. ``We believe that the Audible Internet audio service will act as a vehicle for expanding the reach of C-SPAN audio.''
