Hearst Magazines President Cathleen P. Black has announced that Marian McEvoy, editor-in-chief of Elle Decor, has been appointed editor-in-chief of House Beautiful. McEvoy succeeds Louis Oliver Gropp, who recently announced his retirement. She begins her new post on July 24, 2000. Gropp was editor-in-chief of House Beautiful since January 1991.

``Marian is a very talented editor,'' said Black. ``With her unique vision, exceptional editorial skills and experience in the home lifestyle and design category, House Beautiful will continue to be the foremost magazine of stylish and beautiful living. I am delighted to welcome Marian to Hearst and at the same time would like to recognize the successes Lou Gropp brought to House Beautiful.''

``House Beautiful is an important magazine with a rich past and a great future,'' said McEvoy. ``Coming to House Beautiful is an opportunity to expand my love of houses, interiors and the philosophy of stylish living to ultimately inform, help and delight readers.''

McEvoy has been editor-in-chief of Elle Decor since 1991. Previously, she was co-editor of Elle magazine from 1988-1991. From 1974-1989, McEvoy was the European fashion editor for Women's Wear Daily and W magazine in Paris. She began her career with the Los Angeles Herald Examiner, a Hearst newspaper, in 1969. Founded in 1896, House Beautiful is published by Hearst Magazines, a unit of The Hearst Corporation. House Beautiful has a total readership in excess of 6.3 million.
