Monday, July 10, 2000 Media Cynic | Forum | Advertising | Classifieds | Jobs Southern Progress to Launch Online Shopping Magazine ``This is a personal service magazine for women,'' says Tom Angelillo, president and chief executive officer of Southern Progress. ``This is not a magazine about Web sites. It's about shopping for products and services. Our magazines at Southern Progress (including Cooking Light, Coastal Living, Southern Living and Southern Accents) have become part of our readers' everyday lives. Hotdots will do the same by helping readers find the products and services they need and want.'' The premier issue of hotdots (November/December) will be available November 6 on newsstands nationwide, with an initial guaranteed rate base for advertisers of 400,000. At a $3.95 cover price, it will be published bimonthly in 2001 and monthly beginning in 2002. Editorially, the magazine will focus on finding the hottest products and newest services in the major areas of women's lives: home, beauty, fashion, health and fitness, travel, children, entertainment and technology. ``We'll not only tell readers about products and services and where to find them online, we'll also publish major feature articles on trends in everything from fashion to sports gear to travel,'' says Editor Mark Mayfield. ``We've hired trend spotters and outstanding nationally known writers in each of these lifestyle categories.'' The magazine's companion website will provide information on shopping online and a searchable gift finder. It will also be interactive to allow readers to offer their own advice on shopping and products. In addition to the resources at Southern Progress, the magazine is drawing on the expertise of other Time Inc. publications in New York, including InStyle, Entertainment Weekly, Fortune and People. ``The online/offline magazine editorial focus of hotdots provides readers a unique and unduplicated means of accessing quality products and services available on the Internet in a fun and relaxing way,'' says Publisher Jeff Ward. ``There's a reason why this magazine wasn't launched two years ago -- the Internet wasn't ready for it. The time is now, and with hotdots all-star editorial team, corporate infrastructure, and commitment to quality both online and offline, we're certain we have a very real and exciting window of opportunity. We intend to take advantage of it.''
