Carus Publishing Acquires Cobblestone Magazine Group

Carus Publishing Company has announced that it has acquired, substantially, all the assets of the Cobblestone Publishing Division of Pearson Education. Carus is one of the leading independent publishers of high quality children's literary magazines in North America. Carus' Cricket Magazine Group publishes the Babybug, Ladybug, Spider, Cricket, and Cicada magazines and a science and discovery line which includes Muse and Click.

Cobblestone, founded in 1980, is a leading publisher of nonfiction magazines designed for use in the school and educational markets. The Cobblestone Group, headquartered in Peterborough, New Hampshire publishes the nonfiction magazines Cobblestone, Calliope, Odyssey, Faces, Appleseeds, and Footsteps.

Marianne Carus, Editor-in-Chief of Cricket, said, ``We are delighted to have the Cobblestone magazines as part of our family. They share our commitment to providing the best in children's literature. The combination of the two companies will give parents, teachers, and librarians a broader choice of high quality literature.''

Commenting on the acquisition, Carus Chief Executive Officer, Jack Olbrych, stated, ``The Cobblestone acquisition provides a significant expansion of our product line and offers us greater access to the school market. Both companies share a similar commitment to enhance and enrich the lives of children. This acquisition is a continuation of our strategy to become the premiere publisher of high quality children's magazines.''
