Hyperion to Publish New Book by Michael J. Fox

Hyperion has announced its plans to publish a new book by Michael J. Fox. The as yet untitled book is scheduled for publication in the fall of 2001. In his book Fox will detail his struggle against Parkinson's disease. The actor's proceeds will go to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's disease. According to Inside.com the advance for the book was around $4 million.

The announcement was made by Robert S. Miller, senior vice president, managing director, Hyperion. Of the acquisition Miller said: ``We're thrilled to be Michael J. Fox's publisher for this extraordinary book. In it Fox takes a journey into illness with his dignity and humor intact, and the result is a book that we believe will have a profound impact on readers for years to come.''

Michael J. Fox said: ``I consider myself a lucky man, and given that I have Parkinson's disease that statement requires some explanation -- maybe a whole book's worth. I'm grateful to Hyperion for the opportunity to share my experience and hope with readers.''

Miller made the deal with Amanda Urban of ICM. The editor for the book will be Martha K. Levin, vice president and publisher, Hyperion. Hyperion, which was founded in 1991, publishes general-interest fiction and non-fiction hardcover, trade, and mass-market paperback books for adults and includes the Talk Miramax, ESPN Books, ABC Daytime Press, and Hyperion East imprints.
