Wall Street Journal Launches Opinion Website

The Wall Street Journal has launched a new free website, OpinionJournal.com. Edited by the staff of the Journal's editorial page, the new site will offer daily commentary in addition to selected Journal items.

Through the election, OpinionJournal.com will feature exclusive original weekly columns from Reagan speechwriter and author Peggy Noonan, novelist Mark Helprin, Detroit News staff columnist Tom Bray, and former Jewish Forward editor Seth Lipsky. Other features of OpinionJournal.com include a ``best of the web today'' list of approximately 10 news and opinion items. Each will feature a brief commentary and hot link. Original daily opinion columns on politics by Journal editorial page staffer John Fund and the media by Journal editorial page staffer Dorothy Rabinowitz are also provided.

Journal editor Robert Bartley said, ``OpinionJournal.com will establish a pre-eminent position in e-opinion for The Wall Street Journal, and the principles of 'free people, free markets' in which we believe. We think this new site will make an important contribution to the public dialogue at a critical time of decision for American voters and thinking people around the world.''

The Wall Street Journal is published by Dow Jones & Company. In addition to the Journal and its international and online editions, Dow Jones publishes Barron's and SmartMoney magazines and other periodicals, Dow Jones Newswires, Dow Jones Indexes, and the Ottaway group of community newspapers. Dow Jones is co-owner with Reuters Group of Factiva, with Excite@Home of Work.com, and with NBC of the CNBC television operations in Asia and Europe.
